Human remains have been found after the search for a recent graduate of a prestigious boys’ school who vanished while celebrating Schoolies.
A member of the public alerted police after spotting what appeared to be human remains at Little Bay Beach in Arakoon on the NSW Mid North Coast about 7.30am on Friday.
Astin Gerstl, 18, disappeared from the same beach on Sunday after being caught in a rip about 4.30pm.
Witnesses tried to reach him when he began struggling in the water, but he was dragged further out to sea.
The search was suspended after days of efforts failed to locate him.
Police said the remains have been taken for forensic examination, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Gerstl had been on a one-week trip with friends celebrating the end of his schooling.
He had recently completed his Year 12 exams at The King’s School in Sydney’s west, acting principal Stephen Edwards confirmed in a statement.
The King’s School is a prestigious private school, as well as a boarding school.
Little Bay Beach is not patrolled by surf lifesavers and is not recommended for swimming, according to NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
