A two-year-old boy was tragically mauled to death by a pit bull on a popular Greek holiday island.
The devastating incident took place in Zakynthos while the child, along with his father and British mother, returned from a shopping trip.
The unnamed toddler is said to have escaped the attention of his parents and entered the room where the dog was chained.
But the pit bull managed to launch an attack on the child by biting him in the face and head.
The young boy was left with fatal injuries following the mauling and was rushed to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, where he was given first aid.
Despite the doctors’ efforts to save him, the minor tragically succumbed to his injuries.
His parents were arrested and have now been charged with manslaughter.
An investigative source told The Sun that an inquiry is now underway.

‘The toddler was in the home’s courtyard playing when he was attacked,’ they told the newspaper.
‘It appears that while the pit bull was chained to the wall the boy got very close to him and the dog immediately pounced.’
Authorities were informed that the dog was a stray and was discovered next to their home around two months prior to the attack.
The family decided to take the animal in to take care of it until a foster parent could be found for adoption.
The Daily Mail has approached the Foreign Office for comment.
It comes just days after a Tennessee man and his three-month-old granddaughter were found dead after being mauled by seven pit bulls inside their family home.
James Alexander Smith, 50, and the baby girl were attacked by the vicious dogs inside his Tullahoma residence on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said they were called to the gory scene at around 3pm, finding both victims dead on arrival, with some of the dogs still attacking the infant.
The pit bulls were killed to get them off the baby. The other dogs in the home were taken into the custody of Tullahoma Animal Control to determine the proper course of action.
