During the latest instalment of Life in the Dales, Reuben Owen from Our Yorkshire Farm and his mate faced a setback that nearly led to a resignation.
The episode kicked off with Reuben enlisting the help of his mates Capper and Sonny to repair the access road to Ravenseat Farm as a favour for his parents.
Despite lacking experience in tarmacking, Reuben was confident the trio could complete the task at hand.
He shared with viewers, “It’s quite nice to be doing jobs for your family.”
Reuben confessed, “You tend to put your own jobs off, and I have been putting this job off for ages. But mum has just finally given me enough stick that, today, we are going to tackle it.”
But the situation went awry when Capper, entrusted to operate the loading shovel, mistakenly drove onto the grass, reports Leeds Live.

Capper couldn’t even look
Reflecting on his error, Capper admitted, “It’s just bad, isn’t it?” and expressed remorse, “I do apologise, Reuben.”
As he explained the predicament, Capper remarked, “So yeah, I parked it there thinking it was hard. It looked hard.
“But then it sank and got more stuck and more stuck and more stuck. I’m just going to fill in my P45 now, while I’m on it. Today is not my day.”

Reuben did not look happy
In the midst of trying to extricate the shovel, Capper quipped, “I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, or both.”
Observing the incident, Sonny mentioned, “I thought Reuben was going to cry, but he has half laughed it off. But now he looks very serious.”

The piece of machinery got stuck in the mud
He later added after Amanda Owen showed up, “Reuben looks disappointed. I have never seen him look so upset.”
While Capper went down to tell the owners of the field about the mishap, Reuben came up with a plan to retrieve the shovel from the mud – and they were successful in the end.
Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales airs on Tuesday on Channel 5.
