The drama began on Tuesday (August 13) when the Compton rap star shared a cryptic post on his Instagram Stories featuring emojis of a lion and a cheetah.
Many interpreted it as YG accusing his girlfriend and collaborator of being a liar and a cheater, especially given their recent dust-up.
According to the 4Hunnid hitmaker, however, that was not his intention at all.
In a follow-up post on Wednesday (August 14), YG clarified on X (formerly Twitter): “I was at the zoo wit my kids. stop the kap.”
Videos also emerged on social media of YG spending quality time with his children at a zoo, which he had posted on his Instagram Stories before the animal emojis.
Saweetie, for her part, has yet to comment on the confusion.
The Hip Hop power couple were rocked by more drama last week when it was reported that police were called to their Los Angeles home following a heated argument.
According to TMZ, the disagreement happened on Saturday (August 11) and stemmed from “some cell phone drama,” with officers having to separate the two rappers.
However, cops eventually determined that no one had gotten physical and after they made sure that they’d both calmed down, YG and Saweetie were left alone. A noncriminal report was taken as part of protocol.
The California natives have been dating on-and-off since April 2023, during which time Saweetie has become embroiled in the feud between her ex Quavo and Chris Brown, with the R&B singer claiming he had sex with her while she was in a relationship with the Migos rapper.
On his vicious diss track “Weakest Link,” Brown addressed Quavo’s rumored fling with his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran and in turn made an explosive allegation of his own, rapping: “You fucked my ex-ho, that’s cool, I don’t give no fuck, lil n-gga / ‘Cause I fucked yo’ ex when you were still with her, bitch, I’m up, lil n-gga.”
Quavo himself previously alluded to Saweetie cheating on him on his 2022 song “Messy,” leading to speculation that she had slept with his cousin and former Migos cohort Offset.
