A father accused of killing his partner and their infant daughter is before the courts, with mental health expected to be a key issue in the case.
Kate Paterson, 37, and her 11-month-old daughter April were found dead inside their Belivah property in Logan, south of Brisbane, about 7.30am on March 12.
Blake Matthew Seers, 38 — Paterson’s partner and the infant’s father — has since been charged with two counts of domestic violence-related murder, including one count relating to a domestic violence offence against a child.
Police allege Seers fled the property before being struck by a vehicle about 300m away near a supermarket on Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd.
Witnesses told investigators a man covered in blood was seen running along a footpath moments before he was hit by a black ute.

The bodies of Paterson and her daughter April were discovered when officers attended the home to notify family of the crash.
Outside court, defence solicitor Nicholas Andrews said the matter was progressing through the courts and pointed to mental health considerations.
“I can really only say one thing — it’s a sensitive matter and our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy,” Andrews said.
“At times like this, I need to remind myself there’s a job to do.
“It’s currently progressing through the court and there are some mental health considerations here.”
Seers remains in hospital in a serious condition under police guard and is expected to appear via video link when the matter is mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court next Wednesday.
The deaths have shaken the local community, with flowers and handwritten tributes left outside the home and at Windaroo State School, where Paterson was a Year 5 teacher.

About 200 people attended a vigil last week to honour Paterson and April.
A GoFundMe set up for her family described her as “a loving daughter, sister, mother, partner and friend”.
Police confirmed no domestic violence orders were in place.
Investigations remain ongoing.
