Acting Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Tony Perrett said he had been briefed on the incident.
“Emergency crews, including the Queensland Mines and Rescue Service, are on site and doing everything possible,” he said in a statement.
He said two workers had been “recovered safely”, while work was continuing to rescue a third worker.
“My thoughts are with all of those involved, their loved ones, the entire mining community,”
he said.
A spokesperson for the state’s resources safety regulator, Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ), said a roof had collapsed.
“Resources Safety and Health Queensland was made aware of an incident involving a roof collapse that occurred at a central Queensland coal mine this afternoon,” they said.
“RSHQ, along with emergency services and mines rescue, is responding.
“Our current focus is on supporting efforts to recover a worker involved in the incident.”
The mine’s parent company Coronado Global Resources said it was aware of the incident but did not provide comment.
Rescue operations remain underway.
