Boom! The first major bombshell of the NBA offseason just dropped — and Kevin Durant has a new team.
A legend like Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson quickly caught wind of the news and didn’t hesitate to send a message to LeBron James and the entire Western Conference.
Durant was in his second full season with the Phoenix Suns after arriving midway through the 2022–23 campaign. The team failed to qualify for the 2025 NBA Playoffs, and after back-to-back early exits — one in the semifinals and the other in the first round — the franchise owners decided it was time to move on from the two-time NBA champion.
Shams Charania, ESPN reporter, posted on X that “the Phoenix Suns are trading two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks.”
The Rockets were one of the breakout teams during the 2024–25 NBA season. Not only did they finish as the second-best team in the Western Conference during the regular season, but they also pushed the Golden State Warriors to a Game 7, nearly advancing to the semifinals. Now, with Durant on board, Magic Johnson believes the best is yet to come for Houston.

“The trade of two-time NBA champion and future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant to Houston will make the Rockets one of the favorites in the West next season,” wrote Earvin “Magic” Johnson on X, sending a clear message to LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers, and every team in the Western Conference about what’s coming with KD and his new Rockets squad.
