A young disabled man has allegedly received shocking injuries while living in a NDIS supported home, only discovered when his mother made an unexpected visit finding him sitting alone, covered in cuts and bruises with no medical help.
Corey who lives with severe autism was allegedly attacked at home in a supported house in West Australia with his family haunted by the alleged neglect.
“No one deserves to be assaulted, especially a vulnerable person like that,” his mother Kim McBrearty told 7NEWS.
Corey’s mum stopped by his NDIS accommodation just before Christmas.
She found him lying on the couch, covered in blood, with no medical assistance. Despite carers being responsible, an ambulance was only called when McBrearty demanded it.

“You don’t want to put your children in these places, and you put your trust and care in these people. And they’re getting good money for doing it, and they’re just not doing it,” McBrearty said.
“I mean, that’s definitely neglect.”
“The big thing is, if my mum never came over that day, would Corey have even gone to the hospital? Would he have even gotten help?” Corey’s sister Nicole Kershaw said.
Corey spent four weeks in hospital. The physical scars have healed, but his family say he’s changed
He won’t even let his mum give him a hug anymore.
“I think, you know, is he blaming me for what happened to him? And the guilt’s quite bad, because I think, you know, it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t have put him there,” McBrearty said.
“I used to think he was safe there, but obviously he wasn’t.”

Police have reopened the investigation but will only examine the alleged assault. They say the allegation of neglect that followed is not a criminal matter.
The NDIS investigation into accommodation provider My Way has now dragged on for three months. The NDIS Commission says it’s “assessing the incident” but is unable to comment on active matters.
In a statement, My Way’s CEO Peter Mapior said the organisation takes “the safety and wellbeing of people with disability seriously” and “responded immediately to the incident”.
“My Way Disability and Aged Care has investigated and reported the incident to NDIS quality and safeguards commission,” he said.
“Corey had chronic blood disorder which caused his skin to bruise. Corey was known to have nose bleeding occasionally and calling ambulance was in a safety plan.”

But Corey’s mum says they won’t tell the family what is happening.
“They just, you know, that’s what’s really frustrating. You know, they just think we’re stupid, and we’re not going to, you know, we’re just going to let it go. But I’m not, because Corey can’t fight,” she said.
The family continues seeking answers for a son who cannot speak for himself.
