Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen was visibly moved during an emotional reunion between her son and the air ambulance crew who saved his life.
The touching scenes were broadcast on Tuesday’s (June 24) episode of ‘Life in The Dales’, which follows Reuben Owen, providing viewers with a glimpse into a serious health scare that befell Amanda and Clive Owen’s son Miles.
In a harrowing incident in 2022, the young star required immediate medical attention, prompting an emergency helicopter team to rush him to hospital.
The programme’s narration revealed the sudden onset of a critical condition, stating: “Miles had developed DKA, diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition where a lack of insulin creates dangerous levels of ketones in the blood.”
The condition, which can happen unexpectedly, is a result of undiagnosed type one diabetes. Amanda pointed out how at the time it was two hours to get to the hospital by car, which meant an air ambulance was needed, reports Yorkshire Live.

During a heartfelt meeting, Miles met with doctor Rachel and paramedic Mike from the Great North Air Ambulance Service, who played a pivotal role in his survival.
As a helicopter descended at the ambulance base, Amanda reflected on the experience to Miles, saying: “You don’t remember any of it, not even a bit. It’s bringing it all back for me even if it’s not for you.”
A tearful Amanda, while dabbing her eyes, told her son: “I’m not crying, not crying.”
Discussing the incident with Rachel and Mike, an emotional Amanda reflected: “It’s been a while hasn’t it, two years. Seeing you landing like that sort of brought it all back to me because last time I saw that land it was just…”

Miles, when queried about his recollection of events, honestly said: “I can’t remember at all I was out of it. I just remember waking up in the hospital so it’s all new to me.”
Expressing pride for her son Miles, Amanda commented: “I’m absolutely proud of Miles and how he has actually coped with this. Technology and medicine has got to a place now where it is incredibly manageable to the point where you can live a normal life.”
In a touching exchange with Rachel and Mike, Miles expressed his gratitude: “I came here with mum to just say thank you because I owe my life to you all and without you guys, never mind just me but I’m sure a lot of…”
Interrupting kindly, Mike reassured: “No, no listen mate you’re absolutely welcome, that is what we are here for. We are here to look after you and people in our community, that’s what we are here for so you’re absolutely welcome. I’m glad you’re doing alright.”
Ahead of tonight’s episode, Amanda took to Instagram to share snapshots of the harrowing experience, which Miles also shared to his own account.
She wrote: “Tonight’s episode of Reuben Owen:Life in the Dales is a challenging one. It has taken until now to share what happened in December 2022 when there was a big medical emergency on the farm.
“Miles @milesowen86 wanted to share what happened to him to hopefully raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes and Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) which is a potentially life-threatening acute complication.
“Do tune in at 8pm on Channel 5 for an uplifting glimpse of how in difficult circumstances and locations individuals can change the narrative of a story and save lives. #yorkshire #farm #diabetes #dka #tv #series #airambulance @gnairambulance.”
