The tension ramped up even further on Tuesday’s Married At First Sight with one couple dramatically walking away from the experiment.
After almost quitting on two occasions, bride Gia Fleur seemed to make good on her threats on Tuesday night.
Gia had previously refused to take part in the Partner Swap challenge on Monday’s episode, concerned that she would be paired with rival Danny Hewitt.
After packing her bags and almost walking away, Gia’s mood did not improve when she and husband Scott McCristal were given an Anonymous Letter challenge – in which couples gave their unfettered opinions about other relationships in the experiment.
Stella Mickunaite and husband Filip Gregov were tasked with assessing Gia and Scott’s relationship.
Gia was not impressed with the contents of the letter, which questioned if the ‘shine’ of their relationship had been dimmed by external drama – something Stella brought up with Scott during the Couple Swap.

Scott was pleading with Gia to stay, saying: ‘Maybe if we just get through this?’
The letter also urged Gia to remove herself from group chats which would eliminate a ‘need for external validation.’
Gia slammed the letter as stupid, telling producers she ‘didn’t get anything good from that,’ before ripping the letter up in front of Scott.
The letter may have been the last straw for Gia, who soon became adamant about leaving the experiment.
Standing on their apartment balcony, Scott was pleading with Gia to stay, saying: ‘Maybe if we just get through this?'”
She was having none of it, though, replying: ‘No, I want to get the f*** out of here, babe. I’m not coming back.’
Scott continued to beg Gia to stay but she shut him down, saying she didn’t want to talk on mic.
The groom’s efforts were to no avail, though, with Scott telling producers his wife was no longer ‘enjoying’ the experiment.
‘I think she just wants to get out of here. Gia wants to leave and I said I’ll go with her,’ he said.

The decision did not take too long, with the next scene showing Gia and Scott wheeling their packed luggage down the corridor – seemingly away from the experiment forever
‘So, I don’t know when this would happen, but I’m leaving the ball in her court because I’m happy to face anything. If we decide to go, we go. And we go together.’
The decision did not take too long, with the next scene showing Gia and Scott wheeling their packed luggage down the corridor – seemingly away from the experiment forever.
It wasn’t the only drama on Tuesday’s episode with the first cracks starting to appear in fan-favourite couple Sam Staunton and Chris Robinson’s relationship.
Sam, feeling steamrolled by the post MAFS plans Chris divulged to the experts during Sunday’s commitment ceremony, decided to broach the subject with his husband.
Emboldened by the conversation he had with Filip during Partner Swap, Sam said he felt Chris had made a decision for the couple without consulting him.
Appearing defensive, Chris replied: ‘Actually, no, that’s not true,’ adding that his idea was a ‘suggestion’ rather than a solid plan.
Sam admitted to feeling shocked by Chris’ response, saying that he is not used to being spoken to ‘that sharply,’ while wishing Chris could display more ’empathy.’
‘This is ridiculous,’ Chris told producers. ‘I’m 38, I’ve got a kid coming, I don’t need to argue about coming up with an idea for us after the experiment.’

He also took umbrage with Sam’s claim that he showed no empathy, adding: ‘I get called an empath all the time.’
The exchange clearly rattled Sam, who told producers: ‘I don’t know how I feel.’
He added: ‘When someone tells me that something I did hurt them, I’ll always lead with an apology, but instead he was like, no that’s not what I said and cut me off when he did that. I was just looking to be heard.’
The tensions spilled over to the next morning when Chris again brought up Sam’s comments about his lack of empathy.
‘I think saying the: “he didn’t give me empathy” comment hurt him because he sees himself as quite an empath. But I think asking for more empathy shouldn’t really be met with defensiveness,’ he said.
While telling Sam that he would take his comments on board, Chris revealed his disappointment to producers.
‘I am sad, I’m disappointed. This all stemmed from the comment that I made on the couch… Sam’s upset that I didn’t consult him,’ he said.
‘I thought it was cute, I thought it was admirable that I thought ahead of the experiment. He feels I was too defensive. I disagree. I just tried to communicate with him this morning – it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
‘Unfortunately, it’s a bit awks.’
Married At First Sight continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on Nine.
