Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen broke down in tears as she recalled the day her son Miles, 17, was rushed to hospital via an air ambulance after suddenly falling ill.
In a segment from Reuben Owen’s show, Life in the Dales, Amanda and Miles met with two members of The Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The emotional episode of the Channel 5 show, which aired on Tuesday, saw the family reflecting on the heart-stopping moment in 2022 when Miles suffered an unforeseen bout of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
The dangerous complication of type one diabetes came on unexpectedly, with the nearest hospital a two-hour drive by car.

Owen and her son Miles stood watching on the latest episode as a helicopter landed at the field, before the same team who were dispatched to Ravenseat on the day Miles fell ill stepped out.
“You don’t remember any of it? Not a bit?” Amanda asked the teenager, who shook his head.
Unable to maintain her composure, the Yorkshire Shepherdess broke down in tears as she admitted: “It’s bringing it all back for me, even if it’s not you,” before adding: “I’m not crying, I’m not crying.”
Speaking to one of the paramedics, she commented: “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”

“Seeing you landing like that, it sort of brought it all back to me really,” she added.
Responding to a paramedic who asked how he has been getting on, Reuben explained: “I’m good, I was saying to mum I can’t remember it at all, I was out of it.”
Detailing his lack of memory of the incident, he admitted he could recall: “just waking up in hospital,” adding: “It’s all new to me.”
“You look a lot better than the last time I saw you,” the paramedic assessed, to which Miles quipped: “Yeah, I’d hope so!”
The second paramedic joked to the third Owen child: “I remember you were tall, but you’ve got taller!”
Later, Amanda commented: “It was a bad day, that. I guess you get to see a lot of people on their worst day.”
Addressing Miles, the medic replied: “Yeah, you were really ill that day. It was a time-critical emergency and if the air ambulance hadn’t been there that day…
“With the rural nature of where you live, things could have been very different for you. It could have been a different outcome.”
“I’m just glad that there’s people like you that know all that sort of stuff,” the teenager remarked.
Turning to his mother, he joked: “I mean she doesn’t have a clue, and I was out of it, so.”
Beaming with pride over her son, Amanda later stated: “I’m absolutely proud of Miles and how he has actually coped with this.
“Technology and medicine has got to a place now where it is incredibly manageable to the point where you can live a normal life.”
