Police have issued a renewed and urgent appeal for information as investigations continue into the suspicious death of a young woman in Port Macquarie, a case that has left an entire community shaken and desperate for answers.
Emergency services were called to a residential unit on Gore Street at approximately 11.40am on Saturday, December 27, after concerns were raised for a woman inside the property. When police and paramedics arrived, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple serious injuries, prompting an immediate and urgent medical response.
The woman has since been formally identified as 31-year-old Port Macquarie resident Megan Tangye. She was treated at the scene before being rushed to Port Macquarie Base Hospital, where she tragically died a short time later, despite the efforts of medical staff.

In the days following Megan’s death, detectives from New South Wales Police launched an extensive investigation to determine how she sustained her fatal injuries. A crime scene was established at the Gore Street unit, with forensic officers spending hours examining the property, collecting evidence, and documenting the scene.
Police have now confirmed that, following extensive inquiries and a post-mortem examination, Megan Tangye’s death is being treated as suspicious. While authorities have not publicly released specific details regarding the nature of her injuries or the exact circumstances surrounding her death, they have made it clear that the case remains a priority.
In a statement, police stressed that investigators believe someone out there holds vital information.
“We are appealing to anyone who knows what happened, or who may have information about the events leading up to Megan’s death, to come forward,” a police spokesperson said. “This includes the person responsible, or anyone who may have assisted them in any way.”
Detectives are currently working to establish a clear timeline of Megan’s movements in the hours and days before she was found injured. Investigators are also examining who she may have been in contact with and whether there were any disturbances or unusual activity in the Gore Street area on the morning of December 27.
The confirmation of Megan’s identity has brought renewed attention to the case, with tributes quietly emerging from those who knew her. Police have asked that the family be given privacy as they grieve, describing the loss as “devastating” under such distressing circumstances.
Residents living near the unit complex reported a significant police presence on the day emergency services were called, with multiple vehicles and officers remaining at the scene for much of the day. Many locals say the incident has left them unsettled, particularly as few details have been made public.
Authorities have deliberately avoided speculation, emphasizing that releasing unverified information could compromise the investigation. Instead, detectives are focused on gathering reliable evidence, forensic results, and witness accounts to build a comprehensive picture of what occurred.
Police are particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw Megan in the days leading up to her death, or who noticed suspicious behaviour in or around the Gore Street unit. Investigators are also appealing for CCTV footage from nearby homes, businesses, or vehicles that may have captured relevant movements during the critical timeframe.
“Even the smallest detail could be significant,” the police spokesperson said. “A sound, a conversation, or a vehicle seen at the wrong time could help us move this investigation forward.”
As the case continues, detectives have reiterated that the appeal is not only to witnesses but also directly to the individual responsible.
“This is a serious matter,” police said. “If you know something — or if you were involved — now is the time to come forward.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a report online. Information can be provided anonymously, and police stress that all tips will be treated confidentially.
For now, the Port Macquarie community remains in mourning, waiting for clarity and justice as investigators work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the tragic and suspicious death of Megan Tangye.
