Police have returned to Oak Park Station in the South Australian outback, zeroing in on new areas in their search for missing four-year-old Gus Lamont.
Senior officials disclosed that after reviewing crucial new information about the possible whereabouts of the child, a fresh search began on Tuesday to explore six unused mine shafts.
Little Gus was last seen playing outside his grandparents’ homestead on the sheep station on Saturday, September 27, before he disappeared.
“The search, which is expected to last up to three days, will involve STAR Group officers and Task Force Horizon officers using specialised equipment to search six mine shafts in the area,” a SA Police statement said.
“The uncovered and unfenced shafts are located between 5.5km and 12km from the Oak Park homestead in areas not searched on foot by police. Police were not previously aware of the location of these sites.”
“On 17 October 2025, police concluded a four-day ground Oak Park Station for Gus Lamont after an initial 10-day search involving SA Police, ADF members, SES volunteers, trackers and local property owners.”

The new search area equates to 95sqkm. Previously 470sqkm was searched by authorities, assisted by Polair and drones.
The Oak Station homestead is nestled on the massive 150,000-acre property, and the army of personnel involved spent many hours in the original search and then recovery efforts.
“Gus is a little four-year-old blond, curly-haired, smiling face young fellow who has been missing from a farm property about 43km south of the township of Yunta,” SA Police assistant commissioner Ian Parrott said soon after the child’s disappearance.
“The last time Gus was seen by family is approximately 5pm that night, and when a family member came out later in the evening, they were calling him back inside; they couldn’t find him.
“He’s been described as an adventurous child, shy, but he is also a pretty good walker. But he’s never left the family property with any distance previously that we’re aware of.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police Linda Williams said the new search was part of ongoing investigations: “We are determined to explore every avenue in an effort to locate Gus Lamont and provide some closure for his family.
“These searches will either locate evidence or eliminate these locations from further investigation by the Task Force.’’

Police drained a large dam on the property on October 31 and eliminated the possibility that Gus may have drowned there.
“The ground searching at Oak Park Station has now extended to 5.5km from the homestead. This equates to 95sqkm searched on foot. The original search area extended well beyond this with the use of the mounted operations unit and Polair. This area has been estimated at 470sqkm,” the police statement added.
“Task Force Horizon is conducting multiple lines of inquiry to locate Gus Lamont. These investigations have not uncovered any evidence of foul play.
“The family of Gus Lamont have continued to cooperate fully with police and are being supported by a victim contact officer.”
