Joe Budden‘s latest take has sparked debate amongst Hip-Hop fans following the release of Latto‘s latest album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. According to the podcaster, the well-received body of work is convincing enough for him to place the “Georgia Peach” ahead of Doja Cat as the better rapper.
“Latto is ill,” Budden began on his eponymous podcast. “I might have to have her [at] number two. Nicki is number one for me. I think Latto would give Doja a long night. She can’t rap like that.”
He went on, “If I’m just talking about rapping, Doja can pack it up if Latto walk in the studio with her notebook. I love Cardi but I mean, there’s the [ghostwriting] rumors so I’ll leave that alone. Latto has confirmed that to be her pen. She really loves hip-hop, like she’s one of those girls.”
While Doja nor Latto has shared their thoughts on Budden’s take, plenty of their fans did so immediately, sparking debate via social media. Many fans agreed with Budden, particularly after taking in Latto’s latest album.
“Let’s be fr, Freestyle & Bar for Bar, Latto is taking it over Doja and that’s not even discrediting Doja cause she good also,” wrote one fan of both ladies, with another adding, “Strictly bars? I personally think she is better. Doja DEFINITELY makes good songs and performs the hell out of them. Love her down, just think Latto is better lyrically.”
There appeared to be an overwhelming majority, however, who believe Doja is the superior MC, referencing her 2023 album Scarlet that found the pop star embracing her inner lyricist.
“No one with a brain and ears, who’s truly familiar with both artists and their catalogs, truly believes that Latto is a better rapper than Doja,” wrote one fan of the “Paint The Town Red” artist, with another agreeing, “Latto don’t rap better than Doja on no day. Is he drunk???” Check out the X/Tweets below.
