The victim of a horror alleged stabbing has been identified as a 47-year-old mother, as her son stands accused of her murder.

Blaise Mcintyre, 25, was arrested at a home on Merrigum Street in Windale, at Lake Macquarie on the NSW Central Coast, shortly after 8pm on Saturday.

His mother, Rebecca Mcintyre, had been found dead with multiple stab wounds to her face and body.

Paramedics at the scene attempted to treat her, but she sadly couldn’t be revived.

NSW Police Superintendent Tracy Chapman confirmed officers seized a knife from the home.

‘That will undergo forensic examination,’ he said of the alleged weapon, adding domestic violence is a ‘scourge on society’.

Blaise Mcintyre was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with murder – domestic violence.

He was refused bail on Sunday.

Police did not know Mcintyre and had not previously been called to the the Lake Macquarie property for domestic incidents.

Rebecca Mcintyre’s friends told 9News she was a warm and loving woman.

‘She always had a smile’ one neighbour said.

The 25-year-old reportedly called triple-0.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
