A young child has died after being hit by a car in a horrific accident outside his family home in Melbourne.
Saad Masud was riding a scooter on the footpath outside his Melton South home when he veered off onto the road from behind a parked van.
Within seconds the seven-year-old boy was struck by a car, driven by an unsuspecting neighbour, on Cardigan Cl about 5.15pm on Satruday.
The neighbour stopped at the scene and can be seen on CCTV visibly distraught, attempting to save the young boy’s life.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, however the child was unable to be saved.
Neighbour Mohammed Chowdhury told 7NEWS he heard shouting and screaming, then came outside to see a child lying on the street.
The driver of the car has spoken with police. His family said he has been left traumatised. His own children are around the same age as the victim and they would often play together.

“This is a pure accident, he will carry this story with him for the rest of his life,” Chowdhury said.
This child’s uncle, Kazi Islam, said his family had been left “completely shocked” by the tragedy.
“We are heartbroken. He was dearly loved, and his passing has left an immense void in our lives,” he said.
Islam said his family forgive the driver for his role in the boy’s death, but are urging motorists to drive safely.
“Yes we forgive him,” he said.
“(However) everyone in Australia should be very careful driving these days. Kids will be kids, but we have to take up the responsibility too.”
Police said the circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be fully established and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, with footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
