A singing competition series from the mastermind behind Yellowstone? Sign us up! At the end of 2024, CBS announced that Taylor Sheridan would be teaming up with country music sensation and former judge of The Voice, Blake Shelton, in bringing an exciting new singing competition show, The Road, to life—and he isn’t the only familiar face you can expect to see! With the series set to premiere on CBS this fall and streaming on Paramount+, check out everything we know about The Road.
What will ‘The Road’ be about?
On The Road, one headlining superstar (keep reading to find out who!) will embark on a journey alongside Shelton to find the next big musician—but this isn’t your typical singing competition series full of shiny stages and glitzy performances. Instead, contestants will tag along with the headliner and perform as their opening act at shows across the country. Not only do they have to bring their all to the stage as they prove they have what it takes to be the next big thing, but they also have to put in the work with the local fan bases within the cities they’re visiting. In doing so, they have a shot at moving on to the next stop on the road and remaining in the competition.

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences,” Sheridan said of the show. “This is where the rubber meets the road—literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
Who will be on ‘The Road’?
Alongside Blake Shelton, Australian-American country music star Keith Urban will lead as the headlining artist. Known for hits like “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” “Somebody Like You,” “Stupid Boy” and countless others, his decades of experience within the industry makes him the perfect mentor for these aspiring artists.

“I love the idea of putting artists into a real-world environment, to find out if they have what it takes,” Urban said. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are many things that just can’t be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to work the crowd. For me, touring has always been my first love, and this show is about what happens when you leave the glitzy TV studio.”
Fellow country musician Gretchen Wilson will also join this trio as the “tour manager,” guiding the contestants along their journey to the top.
What is Taylor Sheridan’s role in ‘The Road’?
The brain behind shows like Yellowstone and Landman makes his venture into reality TV with The Road in the role of executive producer. “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” said Sheridan.

When does ‘The Road’ premiere?
While no specific premiere date has been set, you can expect to see the series hit your screens this coming fall on CBS, streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned for more info!
