Virgin River is Netflix’s longest-running English language series but some fans believe another drama is even better.

Fans of Virgin River have been pondering whether the adventures of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) can be surpassed by another hit Netflix show.

The beloved romantic-drama is currently filming its seventh season, making it the longest-running English language series on the streaming platform.

In the meantime, another drama has just returned for its fourth season and has become equally popular over time.

Although a fifth season has not been officially announced yet, millions of fans are eagerly awaiting news on whether Sweet Magnolias will continue on Netflix.

Set in South Carolina, this drama follows three close female friends, Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott) and Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), as they navigate their careers, family dramas, and new romantic relationships.

Some fans are convinced it’s superior to Virgin River, making it a worthwhile watch before Mel and Jack return for their seventh season.

The response was divided as one user replied: “Personally I prefer Sweet Magnolias but that’s not saying it’s objectively better than VR – it’s mostly because I’m a sucker for a girlfriend group dynamic.”

However, another fan said: “Virgin River ftw! I enjoyed Sweet Magnolias, too. And both shows nail the “small town” vibe. But the sights in Virgin River are so breathtaking.”

But one viewer pointed out: “I actually felt like the drama in Sweet Magnolias were less self inflicted and made more sense, so I’m more curious as to where they take those storylines, whereas Virgin River is more aesthetically pleasing.

“I like the characters the same, and it’s refreshing with different age groups; senior in Virgin River and teenagers in Sweet Magnolias.”

The debate over TV favourites surged after a query surfaced on X (formerly Twitter): “Which is better? Virgin River or Sweet Magnolias?”

Responses poured in favouring Sweet Magnolias, with one enthusiast remarking: “i love both but i started watching #SweetMagnolias first so it’ll always have a slightly more special place in my heart. it’s cozier somehow.”

Another chimed in with: “Personally I think Sweet Magnolias is better.”
