Lainey Wilson addressed body shamers in a powerful message during a recent podcast interview.
Lainey Wilson Addresses Those Who Criticize Her Weight Loss
Lainey Wilson has a message for people who shame her for losing weight, and she isn’t holding back.
Wilson had a good-natured sense of humor about the whole thing, telling ET Canada:
“You know, I’ve been at this a long time and if you found out about my music and stuck around because of the butt or because of the music…you’re welcome!”
Wilson continued to play into the joke through the years. In 2023, she even released a duet with her friend and fellow Opry member Lauren Alaina called “Thicc as Thieves.” The song samples Luke Bryan‘s smash hit “Country Girl (Shake It For Me).”

As Wilson became more popular and her touring schedule became more demanding, she lost weight from all the hours she spent moving around onstage. Suddenly, she found herself being shamed by people who thought she’d lost too much weight.
In September 2024, Wilson directly called out one commenter who wondered what happened to her famous “behind,” although they put it in more crude terms. Wilson shared a humorous response, saying, “Worry ’bout your own.”
To top it off, Wilson also had to warn her fans about fake advertisements using her likeness to sell weight loss gummies.
“It ain’t true,” she said. “People will do whatever to make a dollar even if it is lies. Because ain’t nobody sent me any gummies.”
Wilson added, “If I have lost weight, it’s because I am working hard and playing hour and a half shows and running around every night of my life. And to be honest, me losing weight or gaining weight ain’t got anything to do with my music.”
Lainey Wilson Says Seeing People Obsess Over Her Body Is “The Weirdest Thing”
Despite everything she’s said before, some people continue to focus on Wilson’s weight and criticize her for it. She addressed these comments during a recent interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast.
The newly engaged country singer called out those who shamelessly critique her body, saying, “Kiss my fat a–” with a laugh.
At first, she said, “It was funny” when people constantly talked about her “rear end.”
“It was a weird thing. I thought it was going to be a quick little viral moment, and then something to laugh about, you know, whatever.”
But as it kept going on, and Wilson kept reading comments, it became a little too much.
“I read way too many things people had to say about me…And [even] if you don’t believe it, what somebody says about you, even putting your eyes on that for a split second, can leave a little mark, you know?”
Things flipped in the opposite direction when she lost weight. People accused her of being on a weight loss medication as they made assumptions about why she had a more “trimmed up” appearance:
“…I had played 186 shows one year, and then people had a lot to say about that. They thought I was on some stuff, and it was just the weirdest thing. Like, this has nothing to do with my music. I’m not telling you you’ve got to like my music, I’m not saying that you have to like me, but it’s a weird thing to talk about the way that somebody looks.”
Wilson said her parents didn’t raise her to focus on someone’s physical appearance. “They taught me to look at somebody’s heart and from within,” she said.
