Chappell Roan Auditioned for The Voice
During a segment of Call Her Daddy, podcast host Alex Cooper asked Roan what her favorite songs for different moods are. Cooper asked Roan what her favorite song to cry to is.
She then continued very vaguely, saying “thank god I didn’t make it.” After that, Roan stopped commenting on the show.
“Maybe it’s so much better because imagine if you were like, not that it’s bad to come from The Voice, but the story is better without The Voice, right?” Cooper said to Roan.
Chappell Roan then kept her mouth shut and signaled a key locking her mouth. The pair then continued the segment.
She Did Karaoke Once and Was Told to Audition for American Idol
During the same podcast, Roan admitted that she’s not a huge fan of karaoke because it’s “for people who don’t get to sing to sing.” Although she’s not a huge fan, she found herself at a seafood restaurant on an off day of touring in the middle of Florida.
When a man in the restaurant asked if anyone wanted to sing a duet with him, Roan’s team pushed her to do it. She offered to do the duet, lying about her name of course. The man had her pick a duet song from his list and she chose “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
“It was all old people and families, it was literally like old people and then like moms with four kids who were like tired and like people turned around because I was ripping,” she said. “Afterwards, old people started standing up and they were like ‘you have to try out for American Idol‘, ‘you have to try out!’”
Roan, in response told the crowd that she’s “not that good.” Little did they know, Roan would be going to Orlando to open for Olivia Rodrigo the next day.
