A motorcyclist has died in floodwaters while on a memorial ride for his father, who was killed in a crash in the same area just two years earlier.
Darran “Daggs” Hyman, 47, was swept away in rising floodwaters in South Australia’s southern Flinders Ranges on Sunday.
Friends told 7NEWS he was trying to save his motorbike from Fogden Creek when he lost his footing and fell into the fast-flowing water.
The well‑known musician, mechanic and father of six from Kadina, on the Yorke Peninsula, had been riding with friends when tragedy struck on RM Williams Way between Orroroo and Carrieton near Eurelia, about 300km north of Adelaide.
The region had been hammered by days of heavy rain, with more than 100mm falling across parts of the Mid North and outback.
The ride was held in honour of Hyman’s father, Trevor Hyman, who himself died in a motorbike crash in the Flinders Ranges almost exactly two years ago.

His devastated sister, Kylie Foley, shared a heartbreaking tribute online.
“Gone too soon but never forgotten. Throttle wide open, ride free forever,” she wrote.
“We already lost Dad, and through all the pain we had each other. The space is now empty where you left — it’s dark and cold.”
Friend Chris Paget said he was “stunned” by the news.
“Of all the things that could happen in this world, I didn’t want or need to hear this,” he wrote.
“You went doing something you loved, for someone so important to you. My heartfelt thoughts are with Leanne and all your family, friends and muso mates. Reunited with your Dad… rest in peace, mate.”
Emergency services say conditions in the area remain extremely dangerous, with multiple roads cut and floodwaters rising quickly.
Authorities are urging motorists not to attempt to drive through floodwaters as the weather continues to shift.
The Mid North recorded some of the state’s heaviest falls on Sunday, including 149mm at Braemar, 129mm at Yunta Airstrip, 122mm at McCoys Well and 120mm at Panaramitee.
