There were wild scenes on MasterChef Australia on Monday night as a contestant took the risk of serving the judges a sandwich.
Vinnie, who dreams of opening his own sandwich shop, was competing for one of the last white aprons in the final round to make the top 24.
And the budding chef was determined to do things his own way – by serving the food he is most passionate about.
Judges Andy Allen and Jean-Christophe Novelli approached Vinnie’s station, only to learn that he was making a seemingly simple dish.
‘You have a fifty-fifty chance of winning an apron, and you’re serving a sandwich?’ a shocked Andy asked.
Vinnie was a little shaken, but he then explained that this was no ordinary sanga.

He was making every element from scratch – from the bread, to the cheese, to the porchetta.
When it came time for judging, Vinnie delivered his panini to the still-confused judges.
‘This is a risk. Some would say you’re brave, I think you’re crazy,’ Allen admitted.
However, the sandwich was just as good as Vinnie hoped, with the judges telling the cook, ‘you belong here.’
Vinnie was rewarded with one of the last white aprons of the season and now joins the top 24.
Viewers tuning in at home marvelled at Vinnie’s creation and were as impressed as the judges.
‘Vinnie made an entire sandwich from scratch, including the bread and cheese. Skills like that will get you added to my apocalypse bunker shortlist,’ wrote one fan on X.
‘Yeah, I’d have that sandwich. Sounds great,’ one more chimed in.

‘Just making a sandwich is grabbing the Helga’s and bunging some stuff on it. He’s making his own bread!!!’ someone else argued.
‘It’s not a sandwich! It’s a panini!!!’ insisted another person watching at home.
One more agreed: ‘Andy. It’s a panino. Not a sandwich.’
‘They may scoff at the guy making just a sandwich – but I’ll NEVER forget the AMAZING sandwich I had in NYC. Blew my mind,’ wrote another.
‘Vinnie’s making a bruschetta. Andy tells him he’s making a sandwich, really?’ said one enthusiastic viewer.
They added: ‘A sandwich? Porchetta panini with bocconcini. Never seen a cheese made before.’
