An Adelaide community is rallying around two much‑loved grandparents and volunteers who have lost everything in a ferocious house fire.

One of the couple managed to escape the home as the flames took hold, as the other arrived back from soccer training to discover the house filling with thick smoke.

Despite the efforts of firefighters, John and Bev Brown’s home — and everything inside it — was destroyed.

The fire broke out at the house in Hope Dr at Paralowie, in Adelaide’s north, shortly after 10pm on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Fire Service told 7NEWS one person who was inside at the time managed to escape and was taken to hospital.

Locals have rushed the support the couple, launching a GoFundMe.

The couple’s two cats also escaped when the blaze broke out. At least one has since been found.

Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze and assess the extent of the damage.
