In a bombshell update, South Australia’s police commissioner has revealed the two family members are now not assisting with investigations into the disappearance of missing four-year-old Gus Lamont.
“Gus went missing on the 27th of September and we still don’t have clarity as to exactly where Gus might be. It is fair to assume there is more work to be done. As with any major crime investigation, we don’t rest until we have a resolution,” SAPOL Commissioner Grant Stevens said on Wednesday.
“Gus’s mum and dad are continuing to assist police with their investigation.
“The head of major crime made that clear at his recent press conference.”
The Commission then confirmed “two family members have withdrawn their cooperation” now.
“We are still getting significant assistance from Gus’ mum and dad.

“We would like the full cooperation of everyone who is connected with this. We deal with the circumstances as they present to us and we will work through the process.
“The information that is available to us potentially rules people out from being a suspect, or potentially has questions remaining over any individual’s involvement. That is a natural course of the investigation.
Gus has not been seen since September 27 last year.
Major crime squad investigators attached to Task Force Horizon concluded another sweep of the Yunta property on Tuesday where the four-year-old was reported missing by his grandparents.
During the latest investigation, a section of freshly laid concrete, as well as a water tank, were investigated, with a cadaver dog brought in to assist in the search.

Police say no new evidence was found, with investigators now readying to search neighbouring properties and a national park as they continue to look for Gus.
“We are not ruling anything out,” Mr Stevens said.
“Adjoining properties including the national park will be part of our investigation as we move forward.
“We will use every resource available to us, if it will contribute to resolving the disappearance of Gus Lamont.”
One of Gus’s grandparents, Josie Murray, is facing non-related firearm charges, which were laid during a recent search of Oak Park Station.
“I haven’t been briefed on the exact offences that are the subject of the charges. It is my assumption that they relate to either storage, ammunition, registration licensing,” Mr Stevens said when asked about the specific charges relating to firearms at the Yunta homestead.

“Anyone who holds a firearms licence has to demonstrate they have a genuine need for the firearm. In order to obtain firearms you have to have that approval.
“The Firearms Act permits us to enter any property where we understand there are firearms or there is registered firearms or a person who has a firearms prohibition order. When it comes to the investigation of other offences we use a warrant for entry onto the premises.”
Since Gus’s disappearance the surrounding areas have seen armies of emergency service personnel, the ADF and volunteers scouring vast areas of bushland, with the SA Government making a firm commitment to continue the search to solve one of Australia’s most perplexing missing person’s cases.
“The major crime investigation focuses on the property at Yunta, but we made it clear during the initial search phase that we had literally hundreds of people on the property searching every square inch within 2.5km of the residence,” Mr Stevens said.
“Beyond that as well, searching up to 15km using police, SES, volunteers, community members and also using technology, aerial assets, motor bikes and ATVs. It has been comprehensive.
“We have Task Force Horizon responsible for the major crime investigation and was running during the search phase. The resources will continue to be dedicated to that investigation, the head of major crime deems necessary to continue the investigation process.
“We said from the outset that we were exploring every possibility in relation to the disappearance of Gus Lamont.
“We didn’t simply focus on the search of a missing child on the property. We were looking at other possibilities as well. That has been the focus of our investigation from the outset of the notification of Gus’s disappearance.
“AI mapping technology has been useful in identifying other search locations. We have deployed resources back to the property to search specific locations identified through that mapping process. Obviously without result. We will continue to look at every opportunity to come to a resolution with this investigation.”
