A family visit has ended in tragedy after a grandmother from Nepal was killed by an out-of-control car when it smashed into a home in Perth’s inner-east.
Her devastated family are now searching for answers after Himali Gurung died while asleep in her daughter’s home.

Neighbours rushed out to help after hearing a “loud smash” on Alexander Road in Rivervale just before midnight.
Trapped beneath the wreckage, Gurung was killed at the scene.
Police say a Ford Falcon crossed onto the wrong side of the road, mounted a driveway and smashed through a fence before ploughing straight into the house.
The alleged driver, a 36-year-old man, and his 43-year-old passenger both escaped without injury.

This morning, devastated family gathered outside the damaged home, trying to come to terms with their sudden loss.
The 53-year-old woman and her husband had only been in Australia for a few months, having flown over from Nepal to visit family.
Gurung was remembered as a warm and charming woman, whose smile never faded.
“She was the heart and soul of our family, our greatest source of strength, comfort and laughter,” one family member wrote on an online fundraiser.

“This tragedy has left our family facing overwhelming emotional, psychological and financial hardship.”
A 36-year-old Kewdale man was arrested at the scene and later charged with manslaughter. He’ll face court on Sunday.
