Ashanti has given birth to a baby with her husband Nelly, and the couple have confirmed his adorable name a month after welcoming their little boy
Pop sensation Ashanti has just welcomed a baby boy into the world.
The singer, 43, married Nelly, the 49-year-old ‘Hot In Herre’ hitmaker, in December 2023, and the pair have now become proud parents to little Kareem, born mid-July. They kept the birth under wraps until revealing their happy news on Wednesday night.

A spokesperson for the couple gushed to People magazine: “Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024. The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!”. The ‘Foolish’ songstress couldn’t contain her joy as she took to Instagram to flaunt her post-baby figure, sharing intimate photos of herself one month after giving birth.
She exclaimed on her social media: “Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do!” In her heartfelt post, Ashanti reflected on the unpredictability of life’s timing and the overwhelming experience of motherhood, something she had yearned for over the years.
Her Instagram caption read: “Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”

Nelly is no stranger to parenthood, having a daughter Chanelle, 30, and son Cornell, 25, from a previous relationship with Channetta Valentine. He also stepped up as a father figure to his nephew Shawn, 27, and niece Sydney, 20, after they lost their mother in 2005.
Ashanti, who was first romantically linked with Nelly from 2003 to 2013 and rekindled their relationship a decade later, recently admitted to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ that she was “shocked and happy and emotional” upon discovering her pregnancy. She said: “I was so shocked and happy and emotional. I always dreamed about it.I wanted it so, so bad and I just feel like the timing was perfect.”
Back in April, Ashanti revealed the news to her Instagram followers as she posted a video of herself just before taking to the stage. Someone asked her how much time she needs to get ready and when her mother, Tina Douglas, checked in again, Ashanti came out from behind the curtain and said: “I’m gonna need about nine months.”
To some, the announcement was just a confirmation since many fans suspected that she was pregnant after she first hinted they were expecting in December. A video of the two from Nelly’s 11th Black and White Ball went viral and showed Nelly placing his hand on Ashanti’s stomach and she makes a heart over it. The two then laughed and rushed off the stage. Ashanti and Nelly rekindled their relationship in 2023.
