LeBron James‘ injury has highlighted the Los Angeles Lakers’ reliance on his presence, as they have now suffered two consecutive losses. His absence has put added pressure on the team’s other stars to step up. In response to this situation, former teammate Kendrick Perkins made strong statements about the expectations and pressure facing Luka Doncic and JJ Redick.

“I will say this though. All eyes are on JJ Redick and Luka Doncic…Let’s see what you can do without LeBron James on the floor. Both of them,” stated Perkins on First Take. The Los Angeles Lakers‘ consecutive losses have raised questions about JJ Redick’s ability to lead the team in LeBron James’ absence. Now, Doncic needs to step up and demonstrate his ability to lead Lakers without LeBron’s presence.
Despite Luka Doncic’s recent triple-double, he struggled with efficiency. He needed 26 shots to score 22 points, showing poor conversion. This does not place full blame on Redick or Doncic for the team’s poor performance. It was a collective issue.
However, Doncic must show stronger leadership to help the Lakers recover their best level on NBA. JJ Redick must also focus on rebuilding his defensive unit. The absences of Rui Hachimura and Dorian Finney-Smith have heavily impacted the team.

Is Luka Doncic unfairly criticized?
Many believe Luka Doncic is being unfairly criticized. Since joining the Lakers, he has showcased his talent not only as a scorer but also as a playmaker, ranking among the team’s top assist leaders. His ability to create opportunities for teammates has been crucial to the Lakers’ success.
However, his real challenge begins now. With LeBron James sidelined, Doncic must take on even greater responsibility. Doncic has already shown strong commitment to the team and has been self-critical of his poor performance. Despite his struggles, he still managed to record a triple-double against the Brooklyn Nets.
