The 2025 NBA Playoffs have delivered one surprise after another. Most top contenders from the regular season have already fallen. Among them, only the Oklahoma City Thunder continue to fight for the title. Meanwhile, several players have impressed with standout performances in key moments. Even, Kendrick Perkins named a surprising player as the top performer of the postseason so far leaving Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic out.
“If I had to say anybody is the best player remaining in the postseason, it’s Big Body (Jalen) Brunson,” stated Kendrick Perkins on ESPN. Although many expected him to name Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Nikola Jokic, the former NBA player chose the New York Knicks star instead. Brunson continues to lead his team with confidence and consistency, serving as the main reason the franchise reached the Conference Finals.
In the conference semifinals, he played all six games averaging 26.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists giving an all-around performance. Jalen Brunson stood out not only as a scorer but also as a key piece in the team’s structure. He helped drive the offense through playmaking and contributed on defense with constant pressure. Moreover, the Knicks star earned the Clutch Player of the 2024-25 season award.
Considering Brunson as the best player in the 2025 playoffs does not mean he has outperformed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder star maintained impressive consistency throughout the season. However, Jalen Williams has been more crucial to his team’s push to the conference finals. Nonetheless, Shai’s performance in the conference semifinals was also impressive. He averaged 29.7 points per game and showcased his raw talent on the biggest stage.

What’s next for the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA playoffs?
After reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks face a difficult challenge against the Indiana Pacers on May 21. However, they hold an important advantage. The first two games will take place at Madison Square Garden. This gives them a valuable chance to set the tone early and build momentum at home.
Both teams enter the series with similar strengths. Their physical style of play and solid bench depth have made a difference throughout the playoffs. As a result, consistency will be a key factor in a series that already feels tightly contested. In addition, individual talent could shape the outcome.
