Gloria Hunniford has revealed the shocking reason she was forced to suddenly quit Celebrity British Bake off mid episode, following the show airing on Sunday.
The iconic TV host, 85, pulled out shortly before the final showstopper with host Alison Hammond telling the other celebs she had been ‘feeling unwell’.
However Gloria has now revealed that she actually took a ‘terrible fall’ backstage and had to be whisked off to hospital to be checked over.
She told The Mirror: ‘I had a terrible fall at the end of the programme, so I never got to finish it,’ after previously revealing she’d signed up to the Stand Up To Cancer special in honour of her late daughter Caron Keating.
Gloria did however assure fans that she was now ‘fine’ after recovering from the accident which occurred during filming last summer.
The Loose Women icon crafted a ‘magician cake’ in honour of her late father, who was a member of the magic circle.

Speaking about her showstopper she said: ‘I thought my dice cake looked pretty good! For me, it looked amazing, considering I’d never baked before.
‘And the theme was inspired by my dad, it was my mother’s recipe, which I really liked. I practiced it at home, and gave it to my son for his birthday, so it really tied in with the family theme. I don’t think I would have won, but I was really pleased with it.’
Following her exit. Alison told fellow contestants Jim Howick, 45 – who was crowned Star Baker of the week – as well as Jamali Maddix, 33, and Ellie Goldstein, 23, the sad news.
‘Before we start the judging we should mention the fact that Gloria is not here, she is not feeling very well but she wanted us to carry on anyway.’
It was an egg-free four layer chocolate cake, filled with golden syrup and vanilla filling.
Meanwhile presenter Noel Fielding ensured to still give feedback on the cake, with fellow judge Paul Hollywood adding: ‘I like the concept. The concept is being executed really well.’
‘Such a shame Gloria wasn’t feeling very well and wasn’t able to tell the story,’ Alison quipped.
Thrilled to be ‘part of a change’, Gloria previously got candid about her reasons to join the show: ‘Unfortunately, I lost my daughter to cancer. To lose a child is the worst thing that can happen to you.

‘Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to any woman because you can’t carry a baby for nine months, give birth to that baby, love that baby for whatever length of time without it having the deepest, deepest impact.
‘It’s so tragic when you lose that child.
‘So giving something back has a wonderful mending process because you are giving back in the name of the person you loved, who you do love, and have lost. It’s very prevalent in my mind, and in my actions all the time.
‘When you do something positive against something so deeply negative, it’s very healing.
‘She was a very special girl, with a great sense of humour. She was the woman in this world that I loved talking to the most.’
Earlier this month, Kate Garraway was crowned Star Baker on Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer after earning a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood.
The beloved presenter, 57, was left speechless after host Noel Fielding announced the joyful news after the gruelling baking competition.
Almost in disbelief, the Good Morning Britain host mumbled: ‘What?’, as Noel, 51, gave her the Star Baker apron.
‘I can’t believe it! It’s the best day of my life,’ Kate said thrilled, struggling to contain her excitement on screen.
But that wasn’t the only reason to giggle on the show, as the broadcaster was left stunned when Paul Hollywood awarded her the coveted handshake for her first bake.
The Channel 4 cooking show sees hosts Alison Hammond, 50, and Noel welcome four new stars for the Stand Up To Cancer special, with efforts being judged by Paul, 59, and new judge Caroline Waldegrave, 72.
