The on again off again girlfriend of late actor Eric Dane has paid an emotional tribute to the Grey’s Anatomy star after his death earlier this week.

Janell Shirtcliff, a photographer, filmmaker and music video director, shared a collection of photographs from their three year relationship on social media.

Dane, 53, passed away on Friday after battling Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly referred to as Motor Neurone Disease in Australia, for less than a year.

Photos shared by Shirtcliff show the pair happy and smiling, even Dane kissing Shirtcliff on the forehand and shoulder.

Another photo shows Dane receiving a tattoo on his left arm, and a video also shows the pair in a golf cart singing together.

Dane and estranged wife, actor Rebecca Gayheart, share two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14.

The couple ended their relationship in 2018 after 13 years of marriage but remained close.

The couple had previously been in the process of a divorce, however, Gayheart called off the divorce one month before Dane publicly revealed his diagnosis.

Dane used his final interview, which was aired after his death, to share a special message to his estranged wife and daughters.

Speaking on the Netflix special Famous Last Words, which he recorded in November, Dane said, despite their separation he still loved his wife.

“There’s a lot of love there,” he said.

“I will never, by the time anybody sees this, would have ever fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.”

Dane also used to special to send an emotional message to his children.

“Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall we had a blast, didn’t we?” he said.

Dane told them “four things I’ve learned from this disease”, including living in the present, the importance of falling in love – with a person and with a passion project, finding good friends, and fighting with dignity.

“I hope I’ve demonstrated that you can face anything, you can face the end of your days, you can face hell with dignity. Fight, girls, and hold your heads high. Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”

Friends launch GoFundMe for daughters

Friends of Dane’s launched a fundraising campaign for his children after the actors passing.

A message on GoFundMe says: “It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Eric Dane after a hard-fought battle with ALS, leaving behind his devoted wife, Rebecca, and his two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world.

“Following his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for fellow patients and to push for greater awareness.

“As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs.”

Dane’s friends put an initial target of $US250,000 ($A354,000) and raised almost half of the total in just a few hours.

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe sits at almost $US230,000 of a now $US500,000 goal.
