Emily Cooper has had her fair share of romantic entanglements in just 3 seasons of Emily in Paris. The young American started her French adventure with a long-distance boyfriend from Chicago but quickly realized that wasn’t going to work out for an entire year.
Once Emily became single, complicated relationships ensued. She’s in a cat-and-mouse game with a man who happens to be in a relationship with a close friend and she can’t help but be smitten with a few of the men she met through work. Relationships are never easy but entanglements are even more uncertain. As Emily learns, amour can be confusing.
Timothée

The episode “Family Affair” threw a major curveball that fans didn’t see coming making for the most inappropriate relationship on the show. Camille invites Emily to her family’s chateau in Champagne. She tells Emily that she and her brother would really hit it off and she couldn’t wait for them to meet.
Emily finally meets Camille’s brother, Timothée, with the two quickly hitting it off and ending up sleeping with each other. Then comes the revelation that Timothée is the wrong brother and is just 17 years old. Though he is a nice enough young man, the age gap is actually quite disturbing and makes it a rather uncomfortable scenario for the typically safe sitcom.
Fabien

Fabien only appears in one episode (“Sexy Or Sexist”) but it’s enough to gross out both viewers and Emily herself. Emily attends a party at Mindy’s house to meet people when she escapes to the terrace for some fresh air. An attractive French man follows her and strikes up a conversation, and the chemistry is palpable.
As Emily and Fabien go for a stroll, they start exchanging French and English words when all of a sudden Fabien whispers a very graphic desire in Emily’s ear. Emily is totally thrown off and disgusted and runs away. And that’s the last viewers see of Fabien. He’s the most uncomplicated of all her entanglements but he’s definitely one of the most vulgar.
Thomas

In the episode “Ringarde,” Emily meets a French philosophy professor at a restaurant after a hard day at work. After a few glasses of wine, talking to someone who isn’t a co-worker is exactly what Emily is looking for. With Thomas being easy on the eyes — and Emily being lonely — the two spend the night together and end up going on a few dates. It’s not until he meets Gabriel and Camille that Emily realizes how snobbish Thomas is.
It is not surprising that he didn’t find a lot in common with a social media influencer like Emily. Like most rom-coms, the rebound hookup after a long relationship doesn’t tend to last. After realizing how stuck up Thomas was, Emily breaks up with him at the premiere of Swan Lake.
Doug

Doug was Emily’s long-term boyfriend from Chicago. In the pilot episode, Emily runs from work to meet Doug at a bar where he’s watching the Cubs play. The two seem enthusiastic to be with each other but fans are left scratching their heads when Emily agrees to go to Paris for a year without talking it over with her boyfriend first. Perhaps she’s not as crazy about him as she thought she was.
The two promised to give long distance a chance but when Doug tells Emily to quit her job and move home, she gives one of the best speeches as an independent woman. Their relationship highlights why fans see themselves in Emily as she can be naive at times but stands up for herself as well.
Antoine Lambert

To be fair, Antoine Lambert and Emily are not romantically linked, but he does have puppy eyes for her. Not only is she repping the business he owns, Maison Lavaux, but he’s a married man who’s having an affair with Emily’s boss, Sylvie. To make things even more complicated, Sylvie despises Emily. If she knew that Antoine was sending Emily La Perla lingerie, she would be even harder on her employee.
The relationship between Antoine and Emily is completely one-sided but things get weird when Antoine notes the La Perla gift wasn’t a suave move to get her to sleep with him; it was a gift of empowerment. The gesture threw Emily off and fans get the inkling there just might be something brewing between the two of them. Given the hints, it doesn’t make sense that this relationship simply ended in season 2 of Emily in Paris.
Mathieu Cadault

Mathieu Cadault is a businessman and the nephew of famed designer Pierre Cadault. He and Emily are clearly taken by each other when they meet at Pierre’s showroom but business overtook their meet-cute. Due to how busy both Mathieu and Emily are, they only see each other for work purposes. It’s very obvious that Emily is attracted to Mathieu but is still hung up on Gabriel and wants to keep things professional. She also sleeps with Thomas on the night she first met Mathieu, so how serious could they really get?
Considering how complicated Emily’s entanglements become, it would be wise to keep things with Mathieu professional but it doesn’t seem like he is interested in that.
Gabriel

The relationship between Emily and Gabriel has been complicated from the start. The two met in a humorous way and they had instant sexual tension. Gabriel appeared to flirt with Emily, so it was surprising when she found out he had a serious girlfriend the fashionable and kind Camille. To make matters worse, Emily was unknowingly friends with Camille, and felt stuck between telling her and shutting her mouth.
By the end of season 3, Emily and Gabriel seemed to admit to their love for each other. Of course, there had to be more complications with the revelation that Camille was pregnant. It makes them a strange couple where they clearly have feelings for each other but might not actually work together.
Alfie

The show seems to be trying to convince fans that Emily and Gabriel are meant to be together. If that is true, then they made a huge error in introducing the character of Alfie. Though they started out on somewhat of a sour note as classmates in a French class, there was also a strong connection from the beginning.
Alfie’s dislike of France and his standoffish personality gradually melted away as he grew closer to Emily. Quickly, they became a better couple than the will-they-won’t-they. He had all the charm and romance that Gabriel provided to Emily, making her truly happy in a relationship. Unlike Gabriel, Alfie didn’t string Emily along while being involved with someone else which earns him extra points. Sadly, the show seems to have made a miscalculation with Alfie seemingly ending things in the season 3 finale when he concludes that Emily is in love with Gabriel.
