Martin Henderson is one of the breakout stars on Netflix’s Virgin River, the romantic drama captivating millions of viewers. The actor has lived quite a fascinating life both in and out of the spotlight.

“Our little show is making such a big splash. I just wanna say THANK YOU for watching,” he gushed on Instagram in December 2024 after the success of Virgin River. “I’m so grateful to all of you who keep supporting this show.”

Martin Henderson’s Ties to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Virgin River isn’t the first big-name show Martin has been a part of. Fans may remember when he played Dr. Nathan Riggs on Grey’s Anatomy from 2015 to 2017. In a December 2024 interview with Deadline, he was asked if he would ever consider returning to the medical drama.

“I haven’t given it a lot of thought, just because I’ve been so committed and busy with Virgin River and some other stuff and life,” he said. “But I think Shonda Rhimes has always been really supportive of me; we’ve actually worked together a bunch of times on different things, so I would always be open to the possibility. Again, if it fitted in with whatever else was going on in my life at the time and my career.”

He Shared His Hopes for ‘Virgin River’

After season 6 of Virgin River ended and the show was renewed for season 7, Martin was asked how long he thinks he’ll play the role of Jack.

“If I don’t feel like I’m really giving much, then I feel like that might be the time where I’d be like, look, this is probably the end for me,” he told Deadline in December 2024. “But as long as the writing is true to who I believe Jack is, and I’m still able to give something with my performance that I hope would satisfy the audience, then, I’d be happy to keep doing. I love that we make so many people happy, and I wouldn’t want to stop that anytime soon. So maybe the answer to that question is actually up to the audience.”

The Star Loves Nature and Traveling

Martin’s Instagram account is full of photos from his travels, whether it be spending time in New Zealand, Mexico, California and other places, including filming Virgin River in Canada.

“I love to be immersed in the simple yet overflowing abundance of nature. It heals. It inspires,” he wrote on Instagram in September 2023.

Martin Henderson Hit Back at Scammers

In April 2025, Martin posted an Instagram video warning his followers to be wary of scammers pretending to be him on social media.

“A lot of people keep getting scammed, and it’s really frustrating. I’m not sick, I don’t need any money,” he said. “I’m not in any financial trouble. I’m not in any legal trouble … I’m just tired, but happy. Please, don’t believe anybody reaching out as me. Tell your friends, tell your mum, tell your sister, tell your dog. Be safe.”
