A teen boy will face court over an alleged machete attack in a Melbourne park late last month.

The victim, a 17-year-old local boy, was allegedly slashed with a machete in park and later found suffering injuries on Nightingale Rd at Mickleham, in the city’s northern suburbs, on February 27.

Two boys allegedly approached the victim in the park and attacked him before fleeing.

The incident is believed to have been targeted, Victoria Police said on Friday.

The 17-year-old boy from Hume was hospitalised with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“He has since been released from hospital,” police said.

Investigations led police to execute a search warrant in the Hume area on Tuesday.

A 15-year-old local boy self-presented to a police station the next day, police said.

He has since been charged with intentionally cause serious injury in circumstance of gross violence, intentionally cause serious injury, conduct endangering life, common law assault, assault with weapon, possess prohibited weapon, and use prohibited weapon.

He has been remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

Police believe a second male was also allegedly involved in the incident, and they are still searching for the suspect.
