10 Bridgerton Characters With the Most Impeccable Style, Ranked

If there’s one thing that Bridgerton is known for more than its romance, it’s the show’s dazzling fashion. The Netflix series takes place in London and showcases the clothing of the Regency Period. The Regency Period began shortly after the French Revolution, and it significantly influenced changes in women’s and men’s dress.

In Bridgerton, women wear empire-waisted gowns made of lawn, linen, and silk, with silhouettes inspired by the classical period. Men wear slightly fewer layers, though still perfectly tailored. Maintaining fashion trends was a delicate balance, as single ladies especially wanted to stand out during the courting summer season —but not too much. All the Bridgerton gowns are handmade for the production, and the designers balance their creative artistry with the historical time period.

The 2000s were a great time for the romance genre, with some of the best movie romances of all time debuting during the decade.

Daphne Bridgerton is the first protagonist of Bridgerton, and she sets the tone for the series and the Bridgerton family in more than one way. She enters the fray in a white wedding-style court gown as she’s presented to Queen Charlotte, and she’s quickly named the “Diamond of the Season.”

Daphne wears mainly blue, which was considered a very feminine and soft color in the Regency Era. The pale blue works perfectly with her red hair and soft features. Daphne is such a historical fashion plate that Bridgerton audiences went wild over cosplaying her, wearing pastel blue empire-waisted gowns with butterfly motifs.

With romance, scandal, heartbreak, and swoon-worthy scenes, Bridgerton couples like Simon and Daphne or Queen Charlotte and George have it all.

Lady Danbury is a woman of strength and quality, and she must look well when her best friend is Queen Charlotte. She tends to wear more mature silhouettes with high necklines and tailored jackets. Though, every once in a while, she wears lower-cut necklines with ease and vigor.

Lady Danbury’s outfits are statements. Her heavy satin and brocade fabrics show that she’s wealthy in her own right and that she’s not one to be swayed easily. She also experiments with trends. She’s not afraid to adopt modern conventions, like an empire waist, along with more relatively vintage styles, like an Elizabethan-style collar.

The Regency Era and its landed gentry are often associated with more clothes rather than less, but Anthony Bridgerton stands out when he’s dressed a bit more casually. Jane Austen’s classic novels about social commentary and romance take place during the Regency Era. In one TV adaptation, the author’s most-loved hero, Mr. Darcy, is dressed down to a soaked poet shirt.

In Season 2, Anthony falls into a lake and gets his own iconic “Wet Darcy” moment. Anthony’s poet shirt and the lake scene were a fan favorite in Season 2. Anthony Bridgerton tends to be one of the more well-dressed brothers. He wears the usual breeches, boots, jacket, waistcoat and cravat, but he incorporates pops of color well into his wardrobe.

Edwina Sharma is a sweet, young debutante who wears pastels like pink and peach. Though she has no title, she looks like she could be a true princess. Edwina is a total romantic, from her mindset to the way she dresses. Pale colors and delicate lace furl around her like a rose in full bloom. The type of silk she wears, and the intricate beadwork that adorns her gowns, is a nod to Edwina’s Indian heritage.

Edwina’s gowns underline her goals and her personality. She’s sweet, cheerful, and eager to please, which makes her the perfect kind of “wifely material”–especially according to Anthony and Queen Charlotte. Edwina is not to be underestimated, though, because her lacy fabrics and sweet pastels hide a spine of steel.

Extravagant

Bridgerton is an adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novel series. But the Netflix TV series doesn’t follow the same order as the books.

Cressida Cowper is a very wealthy debutante, and she flaunts her wealth with her intricate gowns and ornate hairstyles. Whereas most young ladies wore their hair up in chignons, Cressida wore her hair pinned up with many tiny braids and hairpieces. She’s the queen of puffed sleeves, especially in Season Three.

Cressida’s avante-garde fashion is in line with her character’s personality and goals. As a particularly wealthy woman, she can get away with bending the rules of fashion, and still thrive socially (though Cressida doesn’t have many true friends). She is also eager to show off to suitors, as she has been out for more than one season, and she is anxious to settle down and get married.

Marina Thompson is a cousin to the Featheringtons and a newcomer to the London scene. Suitors are charmed by her immediately and fill the Featherington’s foyer the morning after her debut, hoping to get a moment of her attention. Marina’s family doesn’t have a lot of money, but Marina doesn’t need much to look absolutely beautiful.

Marina’s dresses have a very earthy and feminine simplicity, denoting how her heart truly lies with the man she fell in love with in the countryside. She wears elegant floral motifs, and natural colors like spring green and sunshine yellow. Her accessories also tell more of her story: the necklace she wears is a Lover’s Eye necklace, a pendant with a painting of her secret suitor’s eye.

Fans speculate that the ornate swan wig that Queen Charlotte wears foreshadows Penelope Featherington’s ugly ducking turned swan transformation. In Seasons 1 and 2, Penelope’s mother insists on dressing her in citrus colors, which look garish on her. They clash with her beautiful, vibrant red hair and wash out her complexion.

Once Penelope has money of her own from writing as Lady Whistledown, she spends it on improving her wardrobe. Penelope exchanges her saturated orange and yellow dresses for gowns of emerald and blue, which work beautifully with her hair and eye color. She also changes her hair from shellacked pin-curls and matronly buns which don’t fit the shape of her head to more romantic side-swept hairstyles.

Genevieve Delacroix may wear more understated looks as a merchant and artisan, but she is a master of fashion. Not only does she create many of the gowns behind the season’s most well-dressed debutantes, she’s always thinking about what the next season could bring. Her backroom walls are littered with creative hand-sketched fashion plates which show how creative and forward-thinking she is.

Genevieve doesn’t just dress the ladies according to the latest fashion, she dresses them in a way that truly represents them. Though her own gowns are simple, they are still elegant and beautifully tailored. She’s such a fashion talent that it frustrates her when people don’t take her thoughtful advice.

Bridgerton is all about love. With heroes and heroines like Anthony, Simon, Kate, and Daphne, the show is full of romantic quotes.

Kate Sharma has some of the best fashion designs of all the debutantes, and she makes an iconic viscountess at Anthony Bridgerton’s side. She wears shades of purple the most often, which complements her hair and eyes perfectly. She also incorporates a lot of peacock colors and motifs in her gowns, which is another design nod to her home in India.

Kate also wears more than just day dresses for tea and gowns for ballrooms. She’s a very active and independent character, so she also wears lush riding habits and a sharp hunting jacket. Kate masters many facets of style and presentation, from her diaphanous bedtime attire to her regal ballroom gowns to her more structured activewear.

Ornate

Queen Charlotte turns her fashion styles into performance art. As a young woman, she wore more princess-like ensembles, which were girlish but ornate. She always wore her hair in a natural style as a beautiful young queen, and as a mature woman, she wears wigs that are more like intricate statues.

One of Queen Charlotte’s wigs even has animatronic pieces; there’s no chance that anyone would be better dressed than her (not that they would dare to try). Queen Charlotte also wears anachronistic styles, including paniered gowns that are closer to the French Pre-Revolutionary period. Queen Charlotte also changes the colors of her wigs often, going from more natural browns to pastel rose and buttercup yellow.
