EXCLUSIVE: That looming new love triangle for Emily may become a rectangle. Fan favorite Alfie will have a larger presence in the upcoming fifth season as the actor who portrays him, Lucien Laviscount, has made a deal to rejoin the cast as a series regular, Deadline has learned.

Alfie, a sarcastic and charmingly cynical British transplant to Paris, was introduced in Season 2 of the hit Netflix romantic comedy series as a recurring character. Brit Laviscount was upped to a series regular in Season 3 as Emily (Lily Collins) found herself torn between him and her longtime crush, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). Largely for scheduling reasons, Laviscount again became recurring in Season 4, appearing in four episodes, including the season premiere and finale.

Season 4 kicked off with Emily trying to make amends with Alfie after the bombshell at Camille and Gabriel’s ill-fated wedding. He was finally ready to forgive Emily and take her back at the masquerade ball, only to see her leave with Gabriel.

Alfie seemed to have moved on, sharing in a chance encounter with Emily that he has a new girlfriend, and by the Season 4 finale, Alfie was seen encouraging Gabriel to fight for Emily as she appeared to be settling into her new life in Rome with her new beau, Marcello.

It is unclear whether Alfie will be back in the thick of it as Antoine’s business associate who has work relationships with most of the show’s main characters or, as often has been the case on Emily In Paris and other Darren Star shows, he may also re-enter the crowded field of Emily’s love interests.

While Laviscount will be back full-time in Season 5, there have been questions about Bravo’s return after the actor admitted publicly that he was unsure whether he wanted to continue over Gabriel’s evolution on the show. I hear conversations with Bravo are ongoing, and they have been promising. While U.S. series typically have series regular cast members under multi-year contracts, they don’t have options on French actors like Bravo, I hear, so he has to sign on to return.

Season 5 of MTV Entertainment Studios-produced Emily In Paris is still being written, with start of production eyed for April.

Laviscount most recently co-headlined the British romantic comedy movie This Time Next Year, based on the bestselling book by Sophie Cousens, which Roku Channel will stream for free ahead of Valentine’s Day. He will next be seen in another film based on a popular romantic novel, Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation. Laviscount is repped by Gersh, UK’s Waring McKenna, manager Claire Dobner and Hertz Lichtenstein Young & Polk.
