The couple announced the happy news of their baby’s arrival on Instagram earlier this week (Wednesday, March 12), revealing she’d arrived almost a week before they shared the news.

Earlier this week, Michelle, 37, and Mark, 38, revealed they welcomed a baby girl. Taking to Instagram, Michelle and Mark shared the happy news with their followers.

The happy couple posted a close-up, black and white snap of themselves cradling their newborn. “Together we have a new love to share… Our little girl,” they captioned the post. “Palma Elizabeth Wright, 06.03.25.”

Meaning behind baby’s name

The name Palma has a special meaning for Mark and Michelle.

Back in November last year, they went to Majorca on holiday. The couple consider the island to be their “second home” from the UK. It was here that the couple took the photo they later used to announce Michelle’s pregnancy.

Palma is, of course, the capital city of Majorca – so it’s only fitting they announced their pregnancy joy on the island. Majorca is like a second home to them so it felt special for them to take that photograph there,” a source told The Sun last year.

According to The Bump: “Palma is a feminine name with Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Latin roots. Translating to ‘palm’, this name can refer to either the palm tree or the palm of your little one’s hands. Palma can also act as a shortened version of Pamela, meaning ‘honey’ or ‘sweetness’.”

There’s also a Spanish link for Michelle through her paternal grandmother.

Tribute to great-great-grandmother

Palma’s middle name, Elizabeth, is the same as Michelle’s – and both names are thought to be a tribute to Michelle’s great-great-grandmother.

Michelle learned about her during an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? in 2018. During the episode, she learned that her great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Kirwan, was part of the Suffragette movement.

I’ve always been proud of my heritage and I’ve always been very, very proud of my family always.

“I’ve always been proud of my heritage and I’ve always been very, very proud of my family always,” she said at the time.

“From my grandma to my mum, I’ve always been around strong women and now, looking at my ancestors and my blood line, I totally understand why now. On my mum’s side I have my grandma and my great grandma who were evacuated from a totally different country on their own and seen as refugees,” she then continued.

“And on my grandad’s side, which I didn’t know anything about until the past few days, my ancestor was a suffragette and she fought for women. And she fought for women’s rights. It’s like a jigsaw that’s all fitted together and it all makes sense now.

“I’m really proud of the fact these women and in me and part of me, and that’s what I’m going to take forward,” she later added, and the star has clearly stuck to her word when starting the future generation of her family of strong women.
