A Melbourne high school teacher has vanished during a trip to India, sparking fears for his distraught daughter that he may have been kidnapped or killed.

Maths teacher from Diamond Creek Sunil Sharma, 66, was last seen renovating his home in Ashyaana Estate, Amritsar, in northern India near the Pakistan border six days ago.

His two children haven’t heard from him since. His daughter Surbhi Sharma is desperately pleading for help.

“My dad’s 66, like it’s 40 degrees plus in India every day. I’m really, really worried about him. I just can’t understand where he could be,” she said.

“He goes to India often, especially since my mum passed away four years ago. So he’s just been trying to sell his properties there so he can come back and retire.”

“The local authorities just have CCTV so far of, they knew the painters were at the house, the painters were sent away by my uncle apparently and then they’ve got my uncle’s car coming and going from the house four times.

“They’ve got my dad coming to the property (in the) morning, going out for an hour in the afternoon, coming back just before 2pm, just before his phone’s off and then my dad is nowhere to be seen, and his car is completely gone.”

Surbhi has been advised it’s too dangerous to search for her father herself.

“My brother and I have been told not to go there because it’s not uncommon that family members can also go missing if there is something to do with property or money,” she said.

Surbhi has been told her uncle was the last person to see her father.

“I just need him to contact me, contact your sister but tell us, tell us what you saw, what happened and how you left him,” she said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing assistance to the family.
