OUR FAMILY WAS COMPLETE… UNTIL THAT ONE PHONE CALL: FRIENDS SAY HEARTBROKEN HUSBAND IS LIVING EVERY FAMILY’S WORST NIGHTMARE AFTER LOSING HIS HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART

More than $100,000 has been raised for the family of an innocent Tasmanian woman who died after being hit in a head-on crash with a man who was on the run having just stabbed a woman.

Launceston nurse and mother-of-two Elaine Gee was driving home from work when a man driving a blue Skoda collided head-on with her Nissan Navara. Elaine Gee had worked at Launceston Hospital for 20 years and was on her way home from work on Friday when she was involved in a head-on collision.

The 39-year-old was taken to hospital but died on Sunday.

Friend Lisa Gibson started a fundraiser for Gee’s husband, Rodney and their two children, aged 6 and 10, which has since raised more than $100,000.

Gibson shared the couple had been high school sweethearts.

“They were truly meant for each other, they were best friends, they were soulmates, their love was plain for anyone to see,” Gibson wrote.

“Her boys were her whole world, and she was a devoted, caring mum who adored them beyond words.

“What was supposed to be Elaine’s 40th birthday will now be her funeral.

“To say Elaine’s family & friends are devastated beyond words is an understatement.”

Gibson also described Gee as a “dedicated nurse” who was passionate about patient flow and making healthcare faster and safer for people in rural communities and “left behind a legacy of genuine care and relentless advocacy”. Elaine Gee has been remembered as a devoted and caring mum.

Gee is also survived by her mother Sue and brother Andy.

Police say the man who collided with Gee was fleeing from Exeter, where he had just allegedly stabbed a woman known to him.

He died in the crash.

The woman he stabbed remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
