A Clontarf family now struck twice by tragedy have opened up about a devastating alleged domestic violence attack that destroyed their home over the weekend.

Michelle Liddle and Ben Beaumont returned to the charred remains of what was a cherished family home, for 24 years.

“It was just, it was so terrifying,” Liddle said in an exclusive interview with 9News.

The grieving parents are no strangers to cameras, turning campaigners for youth justice reform after the stabbing death of their 15-year-old son, Angus.

But now they’re facing an entirely new family tragedy with the home Angus grew up in gone, along with his trophies and football jersey. The massive inferno forced streets to be evacuated.

“Now we’ve lost every lasting memory of him, we’ve got nothing,” Beaumont said.

The couple shared the terrifying moment they escaped Saturday’s blaze, along with their youngest son.

“Our dog protected us and managed to clear a path so we could get out,” Beaumont said.

The fire was allegedly lit using accelerant by Michelle’s eldest son, 36-year-old Corey Ramon Wardle, who she believes was in psychosis.

“The sad fact is the uniformed police officers who attended didn’t do what we ask,” Beaumont said.

“They didn’t attend in our time of need and mental healthcare was non-existent.

“It just wasn’t taken serious enough.”

Wardle had been due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday on three counts each of attempted murder and arson but remains in hospital under mental health care.

His matter was adjourned to next Thursday at Redcliffe Magistrates Court.

“We’ve lost all our possessions, but we’re alive and we have our memories,” Beaumont said.

Two other homes were also destroyed in the blaze.
