Viewers are hooked on Sky’s new suburban comedy-horror, The ‘Burbs, which premiered earlier this month.

The eight-part series, based on the 1989 comedy movie of the same name starring Tom Hanks, follows a young married couple who swap city life for a quiet suburban neighbourhood. But when a strange new neighbour moves into the house across the street, paranoia quickly sets in.

Keke Palmer (Scream Queens, Nope) and Jack Whitehall (Bad Education, Malice) lead the cast of the show, which comes from Celeste Hughey (Dead to Me, Palm Royale).

If you like twist-filled, dark comedies set in secret-filled suburban towns, like Santa Clarita Diet, Dead to Me and Bad Sisters, check out The ‘Burbs. But first, find out all you need to know below…

What is The ‘Burbs about?

The series follows Samira and Rob Fisher, a young, happily married couple who, after having their first child, decide to leave the Big City and move to a quiet suburban neighbourhood.

After moving into Rob’s childhood home in Hinkley Hills, Samira notices a creepy house across the street where a girl disappeared 20 years ago.

The synopsis continues: “When strange new neighbour Gary moves into the house, paranoia quickly comes with him – and soon she teams up with other members of the neighbourhood to solve the mystery of the town’s long-held disappearance once and for all.”

“The Burbs delivers a darkly comedic take on what goes on behind closed doors, delivering skewering political and social commentary in a town where nothing is as it seems.”

Speaking at Sky’s Up Next Showcase, Jack Whitehall, who plays Rob, teased “a lot of twists and turns” and secrets about Rob’s childhood and past.
