Authorities in Virginia say the remains of an 18-year-old found this week are connected to the slaying of another individual whom police are yet to identify.

Jayden McComber’s remains were found during the search of a pond near the Caroline County line in Virginia on Tuesday, March 31, days after he was reported missing, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Police have linked the evidence recovered to another “deeply disturbing” case, they said in the statement.

A “shaken” caller reported a body on their property in Caroline County on Friday, March 27 — the same day McComber was reported missing.

“The scene our deputies and investigators encountered was difficult,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement at the time.

Authorities are yet to identify that victim because the killer(s) in that case took “sick and deliberate” measures to make it difficult for the person to be identified, the statement said, adding that it was “one of the more disturbing cases our office has encountered.”

Police say the killings were not random, but have not disclosed what links the two cases or a possible motive.

McComber’s family has set up a GoFundMe in his honor.

“Jayden was so deeply loved. He had the biggest heart and made sure the people around him knew it,” read part of the fundraiser.

“He never missed a chance to say ‘I love you,’ and those words mean everything to us now.”

“My baby…. My nephew…. Such a good person… would give you anything he had!!!” his aunt wrote on Facebook. “He didn’t deserve this.”

Hopewell City Public Schools said in a post that McComber was a beloved member of the swim team.

The investigation is ongoing.
