A 17-year-old girl has been found dead inside a Northern Territory home, with a 34-year-old man arrested following a suspected domestic violence incident.
The teen was found unconscious at a home in Galiwin’ku, on Elcho Island in East Arnhem Land.
Police attended the scene, where she was declared dead.
A police spokeswoman said the death was being treated as a domestic violence incident.
She confirmed that the 17-year-old and the 34-year-old man were known to each other.
It is the second tragedy to rock the remote island community in months.
A man, 27, was fatally stabbed during an alleged brawl at a local oval in February.
The man’s death sparked riots, house fires and multiple vehicles being pelted with rocks.
