THE GU-NMAN CALLED OUT HIS NAME — THEN OPENED FIRE: SYDNEY BOXING COACH LOUIS MEEHAN, 32, KI-LLED IN FRONT OF SCHOOLCHILDREN AS SHOOTER FLEES
A man gunned down in front of schoolchildren in a brazen attack has been identified as a popular boxing coach.
Louis Meehan, 32, was walking through the carpark of Punchbowl Community Centre on Rossmore Ave at Punchbowl, in Sydney‘s southwest, when he was shot multiple times about 5.50pm.
It’s understood Meehan had just left a gym when the killer yelled out his name and opened fire, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Paramedics treated Meehan, the son of former professional boxer Kali Meehan, at the scene but could not save him.
A crime scene was established at the site.
Detectives appealed for anyone with information to contact them as the manhunt for the gunman continues.
Police believe the gunman fled the scene in a silver Lexus sedan.
Chief Inspector Dean Johnstone confirmed the victim, understood to be Meehan, was ‘known to police’ and shot in a ‘targeted’ attack.

‘This is a callous act,’ Insp Johnstone said.
‘We believe this was a targeted attack and we do not believe that other persons were at risk.
‘However, in a public place like this, those actions cannot be tolerated as it potentially endangered innocent members of the community.’
Insp Johnstone did not confirm if the shooting was linked to organised crime but said detectives would look at ‘many lines of inquiry’.
‘As I said, this is a tragic circumstance,’ he said.
‘There is a family who is grieving the death of a loved one and we will investigate this matter and we will identify the offenders, and we will put them before the court.’
Confronting footage shared online showed two police officers performing CPR on Meehan while several witnesses, including schoolchildren, looked on.
It’s understood Meehan owns a boxing gym in Punchbowl and trained several well-known fighters, including NRL player Curtis Scott and Jai Opetaia.
