When Wednesday season 1 came out on Netflix, TV fans loved the creepy Hyde Monster, the eerie setting of Nevermore Academy, the characters with special powers, and most of all, Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams. After everyone raced through the first season’s 8 episodes, Ortega commented on how she didn’t think her character should be in a love triangle. While many fans agreed with her statement, others took issue with her involvement. Recently, Ortega addressed her comments and said she could have worded them better.
Now that Ortega is currently filming Wednesday season 2, she’s more involved in the creative process. This could be a positive thing and might result in an even more exciting and layered second season of the hit Netflix show.
Jenna Ortega Is A Producer On Wednesday Season 2 And That’s A Good Thing

In an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jenna Ortega talked about being a producer on Wednesday season 2. According to Digital Spy, she said she enjoyed being part of the creative process and explained:
“It’s been the best. I’ve never really done that on a TV show before and we had talked about it first season. And it’s so nice being a part of these conversations, because I love what I do and I love my job, but I’m able to be a part of the background stuff.”
She continued:
“I get to decide, like, how blue somebody’s gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like. It’s so exciting. It’s so much fun, actually. I’m learning so much. It’s so informative.”

Since Ortega truly understands her character and knows what makes Wednesday tick and what she wants, Wednesday season 2 may be a more accurate portrayal of this popular Addams Family character. Both Ortega and fans thought it was odd that Wednesday would have love interests and get caught up in storylines that are typical of YA projects. Fans were left a bit disappointed by some of the character’s actions, and hopefully in the second season, she will embrace her darkness even more. While she does need to bond with the other characters and experience some growth, Wednesday Addams can’t be even a little bit cheerful. There were a few small moments when Wednesday wasn’t quite as dark as she could be.
Ortega’s comments also suggest that she had ideas about the horror aspects of Wednesday season 2, which is fun to hear about. While it was cool seeing the Hyde Monster finally be revealed, it’s hard not to argue that there were moments when the effects looked cheesy instead of scary. Thanks to Ortega’s horror movie background from starring in Scream (2022), Scream 6, X, and 666, she knows what looks creepy and what doesn’t. It makes sense to use her expertise and knowledge. Since she cares a lot about her character and the show in general, she wants Wednesday to be as good as it can be. The atmosphere of the show is important, and Ortega seems to understand that.
Finally, since Ortega wasn’t happy with the love triangle in Wednesday season 1, she likely can tell when fans are going to have a negative reaction. While it’s unclear how much input she had on each episode script, she at least has made a few creative choices for the second season, and that can only be a positive thing.
What Else Did Jenna Ortega Say About Wednesday Season 2?

Jenna Ortega hasn’t talked about returning Wednesday characters or storylines and she has to keep some things a big surprise for fans. However, while she can’t get into too many details, she has shared how happy she is to revisit this world. In the same interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ortega also shared that she had nerves when she showed up on set to film Wednesday season 2. Ortega said:
“I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it’s like, ‘Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'”
She also spoke to Buzzfeed about the experience of filming Wednesday season 2 and said:
“It feels like everyday we’re tackling a big scene.”
After hearing what Ortega has to say about Wednesday season 2, fans look forward to these new episodes even more. Thanks to the new cast members and the fact that the show is being filmed in Ireland, there are a lot of things to look forward to and get excited about.
