Sparks Fly! Timberwolves Coach Issues Direct Threat to Curry, Butler, and the Warriors

The series between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Warriors is starting to heat up—and in a big way! After an unexpected loss in Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Playoff semifinals, coach Chris Finch didn’t hold back and issued what could be considered a sports-related “threat” to Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and company.

Uh-oh! The Timberwolves came into the matchup with four extra days of rest compared to the Golden State Warriors, yet they failed to take control of the game—even though Curry left injured with 8 minutes and 19 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The Warriors not only defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-88, taking away their home-court advantage in the NBA Playoff semifinals, but they also dominated the rebounding battle, pulling down ten more rebounds than Anthony Edwards and company.

One of the key factors that allowed the Timberwolves to close out their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers was a dominant performance from Rudy Gobert, who recorded 27 points and 24 rebounds. The Golden State Warriors are determined to ensure that doesn’t happen again, and that’s why Minnesota’s coach delivered a stern warning.

“When it comes to defensive rebounds, they commit a lot of fouls, they push, hold, shove, and tackle Rudy (Gobert). That’s clear. We’ve sent a lot of those clips to the league. In fact, I’m not sure I know another player in the league with Rudy’s pedigree who’s allowed to be physically hit the way he is. So, we have to address that one way or another. We’ll certainly try to take justice into our own hands whenever we can. I think that’s the nature of a physical sport, but, man, you should see some of these clips. It looks like they’re pulling guards and linemen just shooting Rudy,” said Timberwolves coach Chris Finch.

Steve Kerr Responds to Minnesota Timberwolves Coach’s Threat

After hearing Timberwolves coach Chris Finch’s comments, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr didn’t hesitate to respond:

“I was upset during the first ten minutes of the game. It was like Houston all over again. They were hugging Steph (Stephen Curry), and they could’ve called six fouls. But the league has established a physical aspect for the Playoffs. Chris (Finch) talked about it last week, just the physicality in general. To me, it’s crazy what’s happening. Everyone’s fouling each other. The refs have a really tough job because Playoff basketball, yes, is physical, and they’re going to let more go, but I think they could’ve called about six fouls, seven direct possessions with them defending Steph. So, I’ve got my complaints, trust me. We all do, and that’s how it goes in the Playoffs. We watch the tape, we see all the fouls they committed that weren’t called. They watch the tape, they see all the fouls we committed that weren’t called. It’s a physical game. That’s how it’s going to be. And both teams have to adapt. I’m preparing to send my own clips to the league.”
