A heartbroken mother who lost her son in a tragic workplace accident this week has remembered the 15-year-old as a “loving, very funny” young man who was dedicated to his friends and family. She’s been left “heartbroken beyond words” by the sudden loss, a grief family describe as “unimaginable”.

Beau Bradford was concreting at a work site at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast on Monday when an object plunged from the boom of a pump truck and struck him at 7am.

Emergency crews worked extensively on the 15-year-old at the scene before he was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Beau’s mother, Amanda Dalrymple, said medics “worked on him for a long time” before they could even transport him”, revealing she was later forced “to turn his heart machine off” in hospital.

Remembering her son, whom she described as full of life, and the “light in the room”, Amanda recalled Beau’s fondness for jokes, music and dressing up.

“He was very funny. He loved dressing up. He loved his shoes. He loved his friends and his family, and he loved working,” she told 7News.

“I just loved how he annoyed me all the time, and thought it was so funny, how he played his gangsta music in my car and made me listen to it, how he would tell me about his Rust game, and I had no idea what he was talking about.”

Dalrymple is now calling for stronger safety rules around machinery on job sites to stop anything like this from happening again.

Family’s heartbreak as community remembers ‘determined young lad’

Beau was a “cherished son” to Amanda and Cameron, “adored big brother to Irah”, a loved stepson, nephew, grandson, cousin, and “truly the best friend anyone could ever ask for”, his aunt Alicia wrote on GoFundMe.

“His kindness, his caring heart, and his quick sense of humour could brighten any room. If you ever had the privilege of meeting Beau, you’d know that the world is a lot dimmer today without him.

“We adore Beau with every part of our hearts. Nothing in this world will ever feel right without him. In this world and the next, we will find you, Beau — our souls will be together, loving the life we deserved to experience with you.”

Donations have already hit over $130,000 in an incredible outpouring of support.

Concreting company pays tribute

A concreting company Beau had worked with said he had “brought so much joy and laughter to us all”.

“Your attitude, work ethic and determination for such a young lad, it was so rare and impressive, and we were all so proud of you, my mate,” a post read.

“We will never forget you, mate, we love you so much, and you will forever ever be in our hearts.”

On social media, numerous other tributes have poured in from around the Gold Coast.

Dozens of posts have been shared remembering Beau, including another concreting business, Pumpylife, that wrote “Booms up for Beau”.

“Yesterday we lost one of our own — young Beau Bradford — a legend in the making, a third-generation concretor with a future brighter than a fresh slab in the sun,” the post read.

“Fifteen years old and already out there earning it, living the life most only talk about.

“To every bloke on the tools — today we raise our booms for Beau.

“Raise ’em high .. and let’s show the kid the respect he earned. Gone way too soon, but never forgotten.”

Police confirmed Beau’s death was sudden but not suspicious, and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has launched an investigation.
