The Umbrella Academy season 4 brought the Hargreeves and Lila (Ritu Arya) back together for one final mission, but it badly disrespected one absent character. The Umbrella Academy season 4 saw the Hargreeves facing a new apocalypse, though one that was a lot more personal than the previous ones, and amid all the chaos, the show’s final episodes answered the biggest questions left by previous seasons. However, The Umbrella Academy season 4 also left more questions that won’t be answered, and even worse, it completely forgot about one character and disrespected them terribly.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended with Reginald’s (Colm Feore) timeline becoming a reality, and in it, none of the Hargreeves and Lila had their powers. This led them to part ways and do their best to live normal lives for the first time, and so season 4 caught up with them six years later. The Hargreeves eventually regained their powers and teamed up one final time to face a new apocalypse, but their reunion and final mission ended up disrespecting one absent and forgotten character: Sloane (Genesis Rodríguez), one of two survivors of the Sparrow Academy.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 saw the return of the Hargreeves and other well-known characters, as well as new villains and allies.
The Umbrella Academy Season 4 All But Forgets About Sloane
Sloane Simply Disappeared After The Umbrella Academy Season 3

Sloane was sweet and kind and quickly bonded with Luther.
At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 2, the Umbrellas were taken back to their time (2019), but they ended up in a different timeline. In it, Reginald never adopted them and instead went for seven other children from the 43 marigold babies, including Ben. Reginald formed the Sparrow Academy, with Ben as Number 2. Among the members of the Sparrow Academy was Sloane, the team’s Number 5, who had the power of gravity manipulation, meaning she could also fly. While most of the Sparrows were hostile against the Umbrellas, Sloane was sweet and kind and quickly bonded with Luther (Tom Hopper).
Sloane and Luther’s relationship was key to bringing both teams together, though most of the Sparrows died throughout season 3, leaving only Sloane and Ben. However, their relationship had a negative impact on Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), who was already struggling to come to terms with being in a timeline where her daughter wasn’t hers. Allison was jealous of Luther and Sloane, and her increasing rage led her to make a deal with Reginald. After seeing that the timeline machine in Hotel Oblivion was killing her siblings, Allison killed Reginald and reset the timeline herself, but Sloane was erased from the new timeline.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 forgot about Sloane, seemingly erasing her completely from Reginald’s timeline.
It was initially believed that Sloane could be somewhere else in the world, perhaps living a normal life and with no memory of her time in the Sparrow Academy and her relationship with Luther, or that she was imprisoned by Reginald, for some reason. Unfortunately, The Umbrella Academy season 4 forgot about Sloane, seemingly erasing her completely from Reginald’s timeline, though whether that was Reginald’s or Allison’s decision is unknown.
Did Luther Actually Fight For Sloane After The Umbrella Academy Season 3’s Ending
Luther Moved On After The Umbrella Academy Season 3’s Ending

Luther looked determined to do whatever he had to to find Sloane, but The Umbrella Academy season 4 didn’t follow up with this.
Luther didn’t forget about Sloane as he mentioned her at different points throughout The Umbrella Academy season 4, but it didn’t go any further than that. Luther mentioned that he would have loved to have a chance to have a family with Sloane, but the show quickly brushed those comments off and carried on with the scenes. At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3, when the Hargreeves and Lila realized they no longer had powers and they were in a Reginald-led timeline, they all parted ways, with Luther going to look for Sloane.
Luther was killed by Reginald before the apocalypse to push the rest to cross to Hotel Oblivion, but he returned in the new timeline.
Luther looked determined to do whatever he had to to find Sloane, but The Umbrella Academy season 4 didn’t follow up with this. Not only did it go straight into six years after season 3’s ending, but there was no indication all season that Luther looked for Sloane, as he never mentioned anything about it. Luther’s love for Sloane was so strong that it doesn’t make sense that he didn’t fight for her, and if she was erased from the timeline, he would have, at least, mentioned that he couldn’t find her anywhere.
Sloane Deserved A Much Better Ending In The Umbrella Academy
Sloane’s Story Came To An Abrupt & Underserved End

Sloane deserved to, at least, get an explanation of what happened to her.
Sloane’s disappearance without any explanation was completely undeserving. Sloane was the only member of the Sparrow Academy open to welcoming the Umbrellas and teaming up with them rather than being constantly fighting with them, and her romance with Luther was key in the latter’s (much-needed) development. Sloane deserved to, at least, get an explanation of what happened to her, and she also deserved that Luther went to lengths to find her, which would have been fitting with how strong their bond was.
Surely, Sloane wouldn’t have been saved from the Cleanse as her sacrifice would have been needed to successfully restore the main timeline, but she deserved proper closure instead of being forgotten – and it would have been great to know if her fate was decided by Reginald or Allison.
