Shaquille O’Neal has never been one to hold back. Always direct, with that bold, provocative style that defined him both on and off the court — and this time was no different.
In a recent interview, the legendary former Lakers player was asked who would win in a one-on-one matchup between his 2001 prime version, at the absolute peak of his career, and the current Nikola Jokic, reigning Finals MVP and one of today’s top players in the NBA.

Far from giving a technical analysis or offering a politically correct answer, Shaq shut it down with a line that instantly blew up on social media:
“Slovenian chicken,” he said with a laugh, completely dismissing the Denver Nuggets’ star center.
And just to drive the point home, when asked if he would destroy Jokic, Shaq dropped a blunt, no-nonsense “Yes,” as if the answer was too obvious to need further explanation.
O’Neal didn’t stop there. Staying true to his bold, confrontational style, he followed up with another headline-worthy quote:
“I’m pushing 40, and you’d still have to double-team me,” he said about how many points he’d score on Jokic — making it crystal clear that, in his mind, there’s no debate.
The best version of Shaq — the one who was Finals MVP three years in a row with the Lakers — still sees himself as untouchable, even today. That’s why he confidently stated he’d beat Jokic easily, even if we’ll never get to see that matchup play out, with one legend retired and the other still dominating the league.
Two Eras, Two Titans
The comparison between Shaq and Jokic isn’t new. Jokic, with his calm, brilliant style of play, has been dominating the modern NBA, already boasting a championship ring, individual awards, and jaw-dropping stats.
Shaq, however, represents a different era — more physical, raw, and ferocious. A center who combined pure brute strength with an intimidating presence that ruled the paint.
Reactions on Social Media
The internet didn’t hold back:
“Shaq was a physical beast, but today’s game is different.”
“No one could stop him in the paint, but how do you guard a center who hits 8 threes?”
“Jokic would pull him out of the paint, make him run, and wear him down.”
“The Serbian is playing chess while others are playing checkers.”
“One-on-one, Shaq starts strong, but in a real game, Jokic wins with IQ, passing, and vision.”
“Plus, Jokic makes everyone around him better — he elevates the whole team.”
The debate is heating up — and fans clearly aren’t ready to pick a definitive GOAT among big men just yet. Want a fiery headline to match all this buzz?
