Australia’s oldest independent school has announced the sudden death of a recent graduate following an accident in North Queensland.

The King’s School at North Parramatta, in Sydney‘s west, announced the passing of Oscar Todd, of the class of 2025, on Thursday.

King’s said Oscar was seriously injured on Saturday and died on Monday.

‘Oscar was a gifted visual artist and talented sportsman. He brought creativity and imagination to all he undertook,’ the school said.

‘He was a valued member of the 4th XV in Rugby and powered the 1st IV at the Head of the River.

‘He also served with distinction as a Staff Sergeant in The King’s School Cadet Corps Quartermaster Platoon.

‘His warmth, humour and steady presence made him a treasured friend to many and a young man admired by staff and students alike.’

King’s urged the school community to rally behind Oscar’s loved ones as they cope with the unexpected loss.

It’s understood he was from the town of Condobolin in the Central West region of NSW and was a boarder at the school who was house monitor in Year 12.

‘In this moment of deep sorrow, we hold to the assurance that ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit’, Psalm 34:18,’ the school said.

‘May this promise bring comfort to the Todd family and to all who mourn Oscar’s passing.’

Dozens of commenters shared their memories of Oscar.

‘Oscar was such a warm and kind person to have around the boarding house. He was so well respected by all of the other boys. He will be missed, but I have no doubt his impact on the younger boys he mentored and supported will live on,’ one wrote.

‘What a massive loss – Oscar was such a beautiful soul who was loved by everyone,’ another said.

The news follows the death of another King’s student, also of the class of 2025, late last year.

Astin Gerstl, 18, was swept out to sea after becoming caught in a rip at Little Bay Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast at about 4.20pm on November 30.

With his HSC exams completed, he was celebrating the end of a chapter alongside several friends on the trip, but tragically did not get to experience the next.

His funeral was held in the theatre of his former school.

He was also boarder at the school and is the grandson of former Supreme Court Justice Roddy Meagher, who died in 2011.

His family had requested that the funeral be held in the theatre because Astin was a passionate actor who had performed many times on the stage.
