Neighbours have been left in shock over the alleged murder of a man during an “altercation” inside a home on their street.

Police remain at the property on Buchanan Way in Padbury, a suburb of Perth’s north, after being called there on Wednesday.

Authorities said they responded to a report of an altercation inside the home about 6.15pm.

A 69-year-old man found fighting for life was rushed by St John WA paramedics to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

“[It’s] really shocking. Young families everywhere, people our age, all pretty nice people, and [I] didn’t think something like that would happen on this street, particularly in this suburb as well,” a neighbour told 7NEWS.

WA Police Minister Reece Whitby said first responders were met by a “confronting” situation.

“My thoughts are with the families and the loved ones of this person who has lost their life,” he said.

“I understand it’s a very confronting scene.”
